Kindergarten pupils will now be able to learn Malay language basics through the Nabil Nabilah book series.
The Ministry of Education (MOE) announced the extension of the popular Malay language book series to Kindergarten children in a press release on Wednesday (22 September).

Second Minister for Education and Chairperson of the Malay Language Learning and Promotion Committee (MLLPC) Dr Mohamad Maliki Bin Osman launched the Nabil Nabilah Reader Series virtually for children in Kindergarten 1 and 2.
This is in an effort to promote Malay language learning and have students pick up the basics at an early age.
According to MOE, the latest publication of the Nabil Nabilah books for kindergarten children were written by a group of Malay language preschool educators.
For Kindergarten 1 and 2 pupils to learn more about the language, the educators have penned stories based on local culture and contexts. This includes aspects of Malay culture and folklore.
The newly launched book series for preschoolers comprises 20 storybooks for them to read through. This includes 10 titles for each kindergarten level.
It will be distributed to all preschools in Singapore that offer Malay language basics classes by October 2021.

The Nabil Nabila book series was first introduced in 2015 for Primary 1 and 2 students.
Ever since then, the main characters of the books Nabil and Nabilah have helped promote a love for reading among children. They have also helped students develop their Malay literacy skills starting from a young age.
Later on in 2018, the popular series was extended to Primary 3 and 4 students. A year later, an expansion was planned to launch the series for kindergarten children as well as Primary 5 and 6 students.
With the addition of the 20 storybooks for Kindergarten children, there is now a total of 62 books in the entire Nabil Nabilah Reader Series. These storybooks cater to students ranging from preschool to Primary 6.
Since the book series was published physically and virtually, you can find the books online at the official website of the MLLPC here. You can also look through the online worksheets provided on the site for extra learning material. This will surely help in strengthening your child’s language learning at home.
