Singaporeans’ Late-Night Guilty Pleasures Fulfilled By Deliveroo

There has been nearly three-fold increase in overall food orders among Singaporeans between 12.30am and 2am since the start of the Circuit Breaker period in April 2020.

Singaporeans’ love for food knows no bounds. Residents of the city-state enjoy digging into food at all hours, including late at night. Before COVID-19, Singaporeans would flock to popular supper spots to hang out with friends over a meal.

While the pandemic may have restricted these activities, the supper culture is well and truly alive as Singaporeans turn to food delivery to satisfy their midnight cravings. But, what are the most popular after midnight munchies?

Deliveroo, Singapore’s favourite food delivery service, has scoured through its late-night orders to uncover Singaporeans’ late-night food guilty pleasures from April 2020 to July 2021.

Late-night cravings? Food delivery comes to the rescue!

More Singaporeans have ordered in from their favourite restaurants during the wee hours of the night since the Circuit Breaker period in April 2020, with Deliveroo seeing a three-fold increase in late night orders.

Some days are more popular than others, as hungry insomniacs tend to order in after-hours on weekends and Mondays. At-home celebrations with close family and friends have continued, as affirmed by Deliveroo’s data.

The biggest late-night order was a selection of liquor from an alcohol merchant, amounting to a grand total of $724!

You are where you eat: Common cravings within Singapore’s regions

The love for a late-night snack may be universal, but the choice of said snack varies across the island.

Residents in the Western part of the island (specifically Bukit Timah and Queenstown districts) fancied Italian cuisine, while foodies in the North-Eastern and far Eastern areas (Ang Mo Kio, Bishan, Katong and Geylang districts) ordered with a passion for Western food.

Night owls in the Central (Novena and Toa Payoh districts) chose to satisfy their sweet tooth with desserts, while residents in the North (Sengkang and Punggol districts) favoured delicious dim sum.

The top areas in the Little Red Dot that order late into the night and in the early morning reflect hotspots for nightlife and 24/7 services, with Central emerging tops, followed by the West, far East, North and North-Eastern areas.
