This June school holiday, Esplanade – Theatres on the Bay transforms into a playground of fun with quirky performances at unexpected places all around the centre at the 12th edition of Flipside. This year’s line-up includes three ticketed and 50 free performances and roving acts.

Here are some of the highlights of the festival your whole family is bound to enjoy:

Non ticketed performances

- Babymime: Cartoon-like, fun and easy to understand performances by artistes from Thailand that are guaranteed fun and laughter for the young and old!

- Human Body Parts by Snuff Puppets (Australia): giant puppets in the form of a Hand, Mouth, Ear and Eye will roam around Esplanade’s waterfront and interact with audiences.

- The first-ever Southeast Asian edition of the International Society of Caricature Artists’ Live Caricature Drawing session where you’ll get to see live demonstrations featuring many great caricature artists from Singapore and all over the world.

Ticketed performances

- Primitive (Japan) which is like a video game coming to life, features spellbinding visual performances that combine animation with light, projection mapping, music and dance.

- TICKET (Spain) – a physical comedy production featuring Clownic – a trio of mime comedians who will take you on a madcap series of comic sketches inspired by famous scenes of Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton and more.

4. G’day Mate! Say hello to the koalas at Singapore Zoo

4. G’day Mate! Say hello to the koalas at Singapore Zoo

Meet some ridiculously cute and cuddly guests from Down Under at the Singapore Zoo. Chan, Pelita, Paddle, and Idalia are the names of four koalas who will make the Singapore Zoo their home for six months. They are on loan from Australia to mark Singapore’s 50th anniversary and 50 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

To mark the arrival of these special furry guests, loads of kiddie activities are in line as Koala Mania takes over June, such as koala- and Australia-inspired arts-and-crafts activities as well as didgeridoo performances.

5. Flowery Fun Times at the Flower Dome

Take a colorful stroll with your preschooler along the latest display of larger-than-life floral topiary depicting classic nursery rhyme and fairytale characters and scenes at the Flower Dome, at Gardens by the Bay's "Flowery Fun Times".

Greet Mary and her little lamb and Old MacDonald through fields of lupins, foxgloves, and delphiniums. Your little one will get to see local favourites such as " 客人来" too.

"Flowery Fun Times" is the third of six chapters in Gardens by the Bay's 2015 storytelling journey.

It’s Bedtime, Little Dino!

Based on How do Dinosaurs Say Good Night? by Jane Yolen, this five-day workshop filled with humour, rhyming prose, and 11 quirky child dinosaur characters, focuses on facial and vocal expression as well as role playing.

Coinciding with the Southeast Asia (SEA) Games this June, and of course the school holidays, are the first ever River Safari Games!

9. SEA Games 2015 for young sports enthusiasts

Got a young sports fan or budding athlete at home? The 28th Southeast Asian (SEA) Games return to Singapore after 22 years with perfect timing for the school holidays!

Eleven member countries will take part in the games this year, which feature 36 sports and 402 events. Some of the sports that might interest your kids are aquatics, dragon boat racing, wushi, tennis, archery, and athleticss.

The opening ceremony at the new National Stadium on the 5th of June is already a spectacle in itself, with over 5,000 spectacular performers, aerial performances, a high definition floor projection screen, and the very special Games Cauldron.

Head to the Central Public Library to bond with your kids over three awesome new books launched recently by the Singapore Memory Project.

The books are Nini Eat First, Talk Later by Fanny Lai, Playtime with Ye Ye by Pauline Loh, and Designing Cultures: The Lasting Visual Memories by Jesvin Loh (for older kids).

All three books give kids a great opportunity to learn about the history of Singapore from different perspectives in a fun and engaging manner.

12. Spend a day at the Asian Civilisations Museum

The Asian Civilisations Museum has an awesome event called Once Upon a Time in Asia: The Animal Race, which will take you and your little ones on an exciting adventure through the museum to uncover secrets about animals in art.

This specially curated exhibit for children and the young at heart features interactive ensembles inspired by objects in the collection of the Asian Civilisations Museum that draw on artists’ visions of animals in art across many cultures. You can also look out for storytellers as they spin Asian tales in the galleries.

Grab your picnic mat and picnic grub and head to Pasir Ris Park, one of Singapore’s most kid-friendly parks.

Aside from fun activities like pony rides, water sports, cycling, inline skating, and barbecue rental, you can teach your kids some botany by wandering through the park’s carefully preserved six-hectare mangrove forest.

Leading Japanese toymaker and arcade, mobile and home video game publishers Bandai Namco Asia will be hitting the streets of Singapore with an awesome exhibit—Gundam Docks at Singapore.

It celebrates both the 35th anniversary of the GUNDAM model kit and Singapore’s 50th anniversary. The massive showcase will include over 200 models from the Gundam series – the first anime based on space wars and machines that sparked the genre of robotic anime.

Your kids will get to see two-tonne, six-metre tall robots in three locations throughout Singapore, and enjoy daily light and sound shows each night. This event is FREE!

Hurry along to Sentosa’s ever popular storytelling event: "Sentosa Storytelling Comes Alive".

This year, the event gets even bigger and better, with loads of reading, listening, and role-playing activities for the kids, as well as larger-than-life set characters who will spring to life. There will also be dance, musical, and puppetry performances to keep everyone entertained.

Fans of Playmobil can also play with the life-sized western themed Playmobil playsets that have yet to be launched in Asia! Many of the activities are free!
