Why your skin cleanser is more important than you think

5 min read
Isoderm Liquid Cleanser

Your choice of skin cleanser is essential for the road to happy, healthy skin.

Living in Singapore means the weather is both a blessing and a curse, for adults as well as for kids. The (almost) constant sunshine means that being outdoors even in short periods of time, gets you your daily dose of Vitamin D.

However, excessive sunshine, along with high levels of humidity, and the application of wrong skin products could easily bring about skin troubles for you and your kids.

To prevent or treat chronic skin conditions, choosing the right skin cleanser is more important than you realise. As such, reliable products the likes of Isoderm Liquid Cleanser and Isoderm Baby Liquid Cleanser go a long way to alleviate the problem.

Skin troubles that plague us

  1. Sensitive skin is very common in Singapore, with almost 1 in 5 people suffering from dehydrated or itchy skin. While it irritates adults, a lot of the sufferers of sensitive skin are kids – with dry and peeling skin.
  2. Acne is not bounded by the puberty phase; it can strike both the young and old at any given period.
  3. Eczema is a recurring and often chronic skin condition that affects babies, toddlers, and adults alike. If you or your kid suffers from it, you know the severe discomfort and the emotional stress that accompanies the acute rash and constant itching that are symptomatic of eczema.
  4. Atopic Dermatitis occurs when your skin loses its ability to hold moisture. It turns dry and gets irritated easily.
  5. Heat rash is common in hot, humid environment, where excessive sweating can lead to the ducts from the sweat glands in the skin becoming blocked. This causes itchiness and acute discomfort in adults and kids.

The common culprits

There are four common culprits that may cause or aggravate skin problems — allergies, exposure to excessive heat and sunlight, lack of hydration and moisture, and use of strong and harsh skin products.

While allergies give rise to conditions such as Eczema and Atopic Dermatitis, exposure to excessive heat and sunlight can damage your skin and lower its ability to act as a barrier to bacteria. A lack of hydration and moisture can also cause skin conditions to flare up, while the use of wrong skin products can rob the skin of its protective layers.

So parents, be mindful of allergens in and around your house and that you drink plenty of water. The usage of the right products should also be taken into careful consideration.

Isoderm Liquid Cleanser and Isoderm Baby Liquid Cleanser are gentle on the skin, yet clean effectively.

Isoderm, skin conditions

Isoderm Liquid Cleanser and Isoderm Baby Liquid Cleanser are available at Guardian and Unity pharmacies.

Engage your line of defence

Frequent washing with soap with a high pH leads to the formation of an enzyme that breaks down the skin barrier. This results in a damaged skin barrier, which leads to water loss and dry skin.

An ideal cleanser should have a slightly acidic pH value of 5.5 which is the pH value of normal healthy skin, and should be mild and soap-free.

Isoderm Liquid Cleanser and Isoderm Baby Liquid Cleanser are great options for adults and children. Both products are hypoallergenic and non-comedogenic, which means that there is little likelihood that it will cause an allergic reaction. It is suitable for all skin types and helps to alleviate itching and irritation.

Due to these properties, Isoderm is the brand of choice for dermatologists and family physicians. Isoderm Liquid Cleanser and Isoderm Baby Liquid Cleanser also have a strong and loyal following amongst parents.

Parents vouch for Isoderm. David Ong, father to two-year-old Michael says, “I love how Isoderm is a powerful cleanser while being kind and gentle on my son’s skin. It leaves us feeling clean without the dryness of soap products. It is great for adults and perfect for babies. I know it because I use it too!”

Isoderm Baby Liquid Cleanser is formulated for sensitive skin of babies and young children and contains natural chamomile extract, which has has anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties. It is also free from colouring agents and fragrances to minimise skin irritations.

One of the things that make the products effective is the fact that it is non-alkaline and soap-free. Despite being soap-free, it lathers very well and can be used as a facial cleanser as well as for baths and showers.

Isoderm is made in Germany and can be purchased at Guardian and Unity pharmacies.

Isoderm retails at $16.20 for the 250ml bottles, and $25 for 500ml bottles that come with a dispensing pump.
