After fasting Ramadan , Muslims are given the opportunity to fast on the 6th of Syawal. Do you know what the special feature of fasting on the 6th is? Here are the intentions for fasting on the 6th.
What are the Benefits of Fasting the Six Days of Shawwal?
In the spirit of celebrating Hari Raya, don’t forget to take the opportunity to fast on the 6th of Syawal, okay? Why? Because the rewards of fasting for six days in the month of Syawal are great because it’s like fasting for a whole year!
There is a hadith that says:
“Whoever fasts in the month of Ramadan, then follows it with 6 days of fasting in the month of Shawwal, it is as if he fasted the entire year!”
(Narrated by Muslim, Ahmad, Abu Daud, Al-Tirmidhi, Ibn Majah)
Here are the advantages of fasting on the 6th of Shawwal :
1. The reward is the same as fasting for a year.
Fasting 6 days in the month of Syawal gives rewards equivalent to fasting the entire year! If you add fasting during Ramadan, the rewards are truly extraordinary.
2.Completing the Ramadan Fast
Fasting in the months of Syaaban and Syawal helps complete our fasting worship throughout Ramadan, making it more perfect. So you can learn the six fasting intentions if you want to fast during Syawal.
3. Draw Closer to Allah SWT
By fasting on 6 Syawal, we draw closer to Allah SWT, as a sign of gratitude for all the blessings given.
4. Proof of Our Gratitude to Allah SWT
Fasting on the 6th of Syawal is one way we show gratitude for the opportunity to worship and enjoy the month of Ramadan.
5. Proof of Sincerity of Good Deeds Throughout Ramadan
Fasting on the 6th of Syawal is also a sign of our sincerity in carrying out righteous deeds, not only in the month of Ramadan, but throughout the year.
How to Implement
Fasting six days in the month of Syawal can be done in various ways, alternately, consecutively, or on any day of the month, except on the first day of Hari Raya Aidilfitri. However, the most afdhal way is to do it consecutively after the first day of Syawal, which is from 2 Syawal.
Why is that? Because skipping the six fasts can cause laziness and eventually forget to carry it out. On the contrary, hurrying to perform worship is the best. With a sincere intention to fast the six, we can more easily carry out this fast with full enthusiasm.
For the intention to fast for six days, make sure you make the intention first before starting the fast. An example of an intention that can be said is: “I only fast for six days in the month of Shawwal this year for the sake of Allah Ta’ala.”
With clear intentions and performing this act of worship consecutively, we can achieve better rewards and complete the act of worship perfectly.
The six fasts can be done either consecutively or separately. Likewise, they can be brought forward or delayed as long as it is in the month of Shawwal, unless the first Shawwal is not the first Shawwal, then it is not a problem.
The Intention to Fast on 6th of Syawal
Fasting will be valid if it meets the following conditions:
Six Fasting Intentions
نَوَيتُ صَوْمَ غَدٍ عَن سِنَّةٍ مِنْ شَوَّالٍ سُنَّةً لِلَّهِ تعَالى
Rumi: Nawaitu souma ghodin ‘an sittatin min syawwalin sunnatan lillahi taala
Meaning: “I intend to fast tomorrow, the six days of Shawwal, for the sake of Allah Ta’ala.”
The Law of Combining Fasting 6 With Alternate Fasting
According to the Federal Territories Mufti Office, the law of combining obligatory fasting with optional fasting is obligatory. Although it is permissible, according to the Syafie school of thought, the reward or reward of fasting obtained is less complete. This is because it is more beneficial to do it on different days.
Qadha Fasting vs. Syawal Fasting – By Ustazah Asma’ Harun
According to the final opinion, it is better (afdhal) to separate the intention of fasting six days in the month of Shawwal with the fasts that are made up.
It is valid to combine the intention of fasting six days in the month of Shawwal with fasting made up for it and receive the reward of both according to the weak opinion.
It is permissible to fast 6 days in advance if you are concerned that you will not have time to fast 6 days if you have to fast qada first. It is healthy to fast qada after that. Hurrying to make up for the fast first is a commendable attitude and is required by Islamic law, especially for those who break their fast without a valid Islamic excuse .
