The “Born Just Like You” ad campaign done by Relationships Australia (RANSW) aims to challenge peoples’ prejudice and make people question their inherent bias by showing four compelling images to prove that everyone is born equal.
The campaign features photos of four different minority groups that are often targets of prejudice. It features an Islamic woman, a paraplegic man, an Aboriginal man, and a gay woman. It also shows their year of birth, their weight at birth, as well as the words “Born Just Like You”.

RANSW wants to make people re-evaluate their views of others and start a conversation about diversity. It also aims to focus on relationships between people, and how those relationships can build better, and more inclusive communities.
Frank Francis, RANSW’s CEO, said in a statement that “Our vision at RANSW is for an inclusive society which promotes and supports respectful and resilient relationships, and welcoming diversity is an essential part of this”. “Good relationships with others can and do change communities” he adds.
John Hunt, the creative director of Drifter; the ad agency behind the campaign, added that “It’s troubling that we still don’t have marriage equality in Australia, and still see racism, xenophobia and prejudice from all parts of society, from the sporting grandstands to key media mouthpieces”.
Openness and equality should really be an important talking point among people, especially with children. Acceptance starts at a young age, and if we can teach and show our kids the beauty of acceptance, they will surely grow up to be caring, respectful, and loving adults someday.
