Inclusive Play Revolution: Open Minds, Open Doors Event in Singapore

Embark on a journey of inclusion and discovery at the Open Minds, Open Doors event on Dec 1st! Join for a day of transformative play, learning, and community building.

In a heartwarming collaboration, Playeum and Arts of the Earth are set to transform Common Ground Civic Centre & Consultancy into an inclusive haven for children with varying disabilities and their parents. This initiative, aptly named “Open Minds, Open Doors,” aims to unlock the power of open-ended play as a catalyst for learning and development. Located at 21 Bedok North Street 1, Singapore, the event promises an enriching experience for families seeking a supportive space for their children.

Embracing Inclusivity through Play

From 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM, the doors of Common Ground will swing wide open to welcome families into an open-ended play space designed for all children. This event section embodies the core philosophy of Playeum’s collaborative efforts with Dr Esther Joosa on the Open Minds Open Doors initiative, which kicked off in 2019. The past four years have been a journey of discovery, highlighting the profound positive impact of long-term engagement in open-ended play on children with varying disabilities and developmental stages.

This collaborative outreach practice has demonstrated the effectiveness of open-ended play and showcased the empowerment that comes from including families, caregivers, and educators in the process. The event is not just about play; it’s about creating an inclusive community that recognizes the unique potential of every child.

Information Session and Sharing of Insights

The heart of the event lies in the Information Session and Sharing segment, scheduled from 2:30 PM to 3:30 PM. Renowned Diversity and Disability Expert Dr Esther Joosa and Charlotte Goh, Executive Director of Playeum, will lead this session. They will delve into the principles and visions behind open-ended play experiences, shedding light on how communities can collaboratively create safe spaces that nurture children as active participants in their own development.

A key highlight of this session is the launch of the Families and Caregivers Manual, a comprehensive guide authored by Dr Esther Joosa and funded by the Dews of Joy Foundation. This manual is not just a resource; it’s a roadmap for families and caregivers, equipping them with practical ideas to integrate the principles of open-ended play into their homes. The launch signifies a milestone in the commitment to empowering families and caregivers, turning knowledge into tangible actions.

Empowering Through Expert Guidance

Charlotte Goh and Dr Esther Joosa, both pioneers in their respective fields, will bring their wealth of insights and expertise to the event. Their guidance during the open play space and the information session will provide a unique opportunity for attendees to glean from their experiences. As leaders committed to inclusivity and the transformative power of play, they will share strategies, answer questions, and foster an environment where everyone can learn and grow.

Inclusive Play Revolution: Open Minds, Open Doors Event in Singapore

The Open Minds, Open Doors event on December 1st is not just a playdate—it’s a celebration of inclusivity, a sharing of knowledge, and a call to action for creating spaces where every child can thrive. Families, caregivers, and those passionate about promoting inclusivity are invited to join Playeum and Arts of the Earth in this enriching journey of discovery, learning, and community building. Open the doors to a world where play is not just a pastime but a powerful tool for transformation.
