Home Remedies That Actually Work!

21 Feb, 2010

Tired of popping a pill for all your aches and pains? Well, the good news is that you really don't need to run to the Doctor or self medicate every time something goes wrong. Try one of these home remedies:

Arthiritis Pain Relief

Arthiritis Pain Relief

Mix 2 cups of Quaker Oats and 1 cup of water in a bowl and warm it in the microwave for 1 minute. Cool slightly and apply the mixture to your hands for soothing relief from arthritis pain.
Urinary tract infections

Urinary tract infections

Dissolve two tablets of Alka-Setzer in a glass of water and drink it at the onset of the symptoms. Alka-Seltzer begins eliminating urinary tract infections almost instantly, even though the product was never advertised for this use.
Sore throat

Sore throat

Mix 1/4 cup of vinegar with 1/4 cup of honey and take 1 tablespoon six times a day. The vinegar kills the bacteria.
Headache

Headache

Drinking two glasses of Gatorade can relieve headache pain almost immediately!
Stomachache

Stomachache

Eat yoghurt, as it contains the bacteria that your stomach requires but is lacking during a tummy upset.
Burns

Burns

Rub Colgate toothpaste on the wounded area. It might smart a little but it makes an excellent salve for burns!
Bruises

Bruises

Soak a cotton ball in white vinegar and apply it to the bruise for 1 hour. The vinegar reduces the bluish tinge and speeds up the healing process.
Mosquito Bites

Mosquito Bites

Apply a small amount of Zam-Buk Medicated Ointment onto the area, as it helps the itch and the swelling to subside.
Warding off Mosquitoes

Warding off Mosquitoes

Douse a soft cloth with Listerine and apply it to surrounding door and window frames.
Skin blemishes

Skin blemishes

Cover the blemish with a dab of honey and place a Band-Aid over it. Honey kills the bacteria, keeps the skin sterile, and speeds up the healing process. You will be able to see the results overnight.
Blocked Nose

Blocked Nose

Rather than buying an inhaler, try chewing a couple of Mint Altoids to clear up your stuffy nose.
Runny Nose

Runny Nose

Fill a large bowl or the kitchen sink with steaming water, and add two teaspoons chopped fresh ginger or Vicks Vaporub. Drape a towel over your head, lean over the bowl and breathe in the steam for several minutes until you feel relief.
