Hidden restaurants are the latest trend in Singapore, offering a unique dining experience in cleverly concealed locations. These secret spots provide the perfect setting for a cosy catch-up or even a discreet job interview.

If you’re tired of the usual dining options and want to explore some hidden gems, here are six new and buzzy restaurants to check out for your next date night:

 

1. Kou Teppan

Location: 1 Kim Seng Promenade, #B1-134, Great World, Singapore 237994.

Opening Hours: Open daily 11.30 am to 3 pm, 5.30 pm to 10 pm.

Kou Teppan is a new 68-seat omakase restaurant located at Great World’s basement level. This restaurant offers a unique dual teppanyaki experience with two teppans (iron plate grills). Diners can choose seats at a live teppanyaki counter for an up-close view of their food being cooked.

The restaurant is helmed by Chef Sawada Ko, a Kansai native formerly from Itoh Dining by Nobu in Hakone. Despite the upscale ambience, Kou Teppan offers reasonably priced omakase sets starting from S$58 for the Enya Lunch Omakase and S$88 for the Hino Dinner Omakase. Don’t miss the grilled A5 wagyu served with your choice of kamameshi or fried rice, accompanied by wine and sake pairings.

 

2. The Bank

Location: 46 Craig Road, Singapore 089684.

Opening Hours: Open daily, Mon-Thu 11.30 am to 11 pm, Fri-Sat 11.30 am to 11.59 pm, Sun 11.30 am to 8 pm.

The Bank is a retro-style burger bar hidden along Craig Road, and its entrance is disguised behind a faux ATM. Run by the team behind the famous Burger restaurant in Amoy Street, The Bank offers a no-frills menu with three types of burgers and craft beers on rotation.

You can enjoy the Signature cheeseburger, a fried buttermilk chicken burger, or a grilled portobello burger, all at reasonable prices.

 

3. Aniba

Location: 6 Battery Road, #05-03, Singapore 049909.

Opening Hours: Open daily except Mon. Sun-Thu 12 pm to 12 am, Fri 12 pm to 5 pm, Sat 8 pm to 2 am.

To get to Aniba, a stylish cocktail lounge and restaurant with a view of the Singapore River, find the discreet entrance at 6 Battery Road and take the private lift to the fifth floor.

The Middle Eastern-themed Aniba offers a menu by Israeli chef Meir Adoni, with sharing plates like lady fingers-wrapped fish kebabs and Yemenite tacos with bluefin tuna toro. Enjoy the lively atmosphere at the Chef’s Bar or the circular bar with libations conceptualised by spirits company Proof & Company.

 

4. Ume San 100

Location: 190 Middle Road, #02-07, Fortune Centre, Singapore 188979.

Opening Hours: Open daily, Mon-Fri 11.30 am to 2.30 pm, 5 pm to 11 pm, Sat 5 pm to 11 pm, Sun 5 pm to 10 pm.

Ume San 100 is a unique ramen bar by day and umeshu bar by night, hidden behind a cluster of vending machines at Fortune Centre. This 40-seater izakaya offers an extensive collection of over 100 types of umeshu beverages.

During the day, you can enjoy delicious ramen bowls and fusion Lok Lok Oden. In the evening, try the Umeshu Tasting Set with your choice of three types of umeshu.

 

5. Synthesis

Opening Hours: Open daily, Sun-Thu 4 pm to 10.30 pm, Fri-Sat 4 pm to 12 am.

Synthesis is a quirky eatery disguised as a traditional medicine hall at Suntec City. The menu offers a variety of bites, including glazed pork satay bee hoon, nasi lemak kueh pie tee, and ikura papadum. Wash down your meal with “TCM-inspired” cocktails like Tiger’s Eye Pu Erh and Date with Jia Jia, complemented by Yuan Yang Tiramisu.

 

6. Haku Sushi & Omakase

Location: 1 Kim Seng Promenade, #B1-135, Great World, Singapore 237994.

Haku Sushi, located next to Kou Teppan, specializes in Kansai-style sushi omakase with air-flown ingredients from Osaka. Chef Yoshiki Yamamoto’s proprietary blend of sushi rice, which includes red wine, sets this place apart.

Choose from the Irodori Lunch Omakase or the Nishiki Dinner Omakase, and enjoy your meal in counter seats or private dining rooms.
