5 tips to eating healthy for working mums

6 May, 2011

Make a conscious effort to maintaining a healthier lifestyle. Make simple choices and you'll see yourself moving in the desired direction. Follow these 5 tips and you'll see that just because you are working doesn't have to mean you eat unhealthy.
1. Snack healthy

1. Snack healthy

Satisfy hunger pangs by stashing some healthy snacks around or on your desk. Healthy snacks include fruit, crackers, nuts, seaweed, strips of carrots and cucumber.
2. Packed lunches

2. Packed lunches

The best way to ensure you are eating a healthy meal is to pack your own lunch! Transform your boring sandwich by adding in interesting fillings like rocket, arugala, portobello mushrooms or watercress. You can also start a lunch pool, where each colleague takes a turn to bring in lunch for that specific day, so you don't have to spend every night figuring out what to bring in for lunch!
3. Healthier choices

3. Healthier choices

It's easy to be sucked in to consuming a plate of duck rice or nasi goreng for lunch. Instead choose a salad or soup with a bread roll. Try to also grab some fruits after lunch.
4. Variety is key

4. Variety is key

If you're going to order the same salad everyday for entire month, you're going to get tired of it and feel even more tempted to eat unhealthily. Try instead ordering different foods everyday - while ensuring you're going for options with lower fat and oil contents.
5. Make it a family affair

5. Make it a family affair

Get the whole family involved in this lifestyle change of yours. It will be significantly easier to make healthier choices if you don't have to come home to a family crowded around a jumbo bag of potato chips.
