The first day saw a flurry of activity as regular diners and curious newcomers flocked to the newly renovated market. The Straits Times reports that the renovations have significantly improved the centre’s drainage system and ventilation, solving long-standing issues faced by stallholders.
Basically, the refreshed Tekka Market & Food Centre now boasts new flooring, a fresh coat of paint, as well as new tables and chairs. Additionally, upgraded toilets and a new smoking point have been added. Moreover, bird netting and anti-bird spikes have been installed to deter our feathered friends from swooping in for a snack.
Notably, the centre’s iconic blue facade has undergone a makeover and is now a vibrant shade of purple. Furthermore, patrons were given a sneak peek of the changes through a poster displayed at the reopening ceremony.
More Surprises to Come at Tekka Market & Food Centre
The reopening ceremony held on September 30 was graced by Alvin Tan, Minister of State for Trade and Industry, and Culture, Community and Youth. In a Facebook post, he hinted at more surprises in store for Tekka Centre in the coming months.
