10 Great foods to celebrate the end of labour!

10 Great foods to celebrate the end of labour!

It doesn't matter if you went through a few hours or 24 hours of labour, mums will agree that, throughout that time, their mind was only on one thing: FOOD.

(Well, aside from the mind-numbing pain that often comes with labour and delivery).

What better way to celebrate after gruelling hours of bringing a new life out into the world than with good food?

Here are ten delicious ideas!

Pasta

Pasta

Carbs, carbs, carbs!

Indulge in pasta to fuel you with energy again.

Not only are they delicious but easy to digest as well.

Cheese and Deli meats

Cheese and Deli meats

Often a no-no for pregnant women due to listeria risks, soft-ripened cheeses and deli meats are totally fine post-pregnancy!

Sushi

Sushi

Pregnant women are often advised to stay away from raw fish. This is because of possible bacterial infection.

But, after birth, sushi is a great food choice to indulge and celebrate!

Granola

Granola

Indulging in oats (and berries) helps rebuild your muscle strength!

Although they digest slowly, they more than make up for it with lots of vitamins and nutrients!

Fresh Fruit

Fresh Fruit

It's natural to feel sore and weak after birth; fresh fruit is a good way to nourish yourself and get essential vitamins to help build up your immune system!

Sunflower Seeds

Sunflower Seeds

This is a great snack option for pregnant mums as well as for those who have just given birth because they're packed with folic acids!

Alcohol

Alcohol

This doesn't mean you can down an entire bottle of wine after labour (even though it's very tempting), but 0.5 grams of alcohol per kg. of your body weight is totally fine! (This is according to The Subcommittee on Nutrition During Lactation ).

If you're not certain how to compute the said amount, two to three sips will be just fine!

Cottage cheese

Cottage cheese

A great type of cheese to indulge in after labour is cottage cheese because they're low in fat and carbs; they're also good for your bones!

Soda and Caffeine

Soda and Caffeine

Many women give up their favorite fizzy drinks and coffee throughout their pregnancy so, it's an awesome choice to celebrate with one glass at the end of labour!

Fresh Vegetables

Fresh Vegetables

Though they may not be the first thing that comes to mind when thinking of celebratory foods, raw, fresh vegetables are high in nutrients which you will need throughout your post-partum recovery!
