GPS device manufacturer Garmin is recalling 1.25 million nüvi devices as their batteries could overheat and explode. The affected units contain batteries made by a third-party supplier, and almost 800,000 were sold in America. Only GPS units with model numbers 200W, 250W, 260W, 7xx and 7xxT, where xx is a two-digit number, may be affected. You can determine your model number by looking at the label on the back or bottom of your nüvi.
Customers should visit www.garmin.com/nuvibatterypcbrecall. If they own recalled units, Garmin will replace the battery and insert a spacer on top of it for free. Please do not try to remove the batteries on their own.
