Fashion and make-up - kids say the cutest things!

3 min read

You walk down the corridor as quietly as possible. As you reach for the doorknob, your hand trembles slightly. You walk into your bedroom and witness a crime scene. Your heart stops. Your little one, in front of the mirror, covered in…is that your favourite lipstick?!

We all know about the incredible fascination with Mummy’s make-up. But what really goes on in their heads? We delve into the curious minds and find out their thoughts.

—
Should everyone put on make-up?
“Yes.”

But Mummy doesn’t wear make-up and she still looks pretty, does she need any?
“Yes she needs! People need make-up or they look ugly.”

–  Josevic Joseph (4)

Why do you think people wear make-up?
“To look nice, don’t want to look ugly. Also to hide their age.”

So why make-up?
“Make-up can cover the spots and holes in their face.”

Any other thoughts?
“Old people wear too much make-up, because old people have wrinkles. It’s for a sense of security.”
“Also so people think you’re rich, cos make-up is very expensive.”

What do you think about fashion?
“A waste of time, takes so long to change, have to take apart the face everytime.”

–  Abdillah (9), Atheerah (10) & Aliyah (11)

Why do people wear make-up?
“To beautify others, give some colour. Sometimes to disguise themselves if they have any enemies, wear makeup to hide from him.”

Fashion is…
“…how you live. Some people have no sense of taste. They wear anything, even tube tops, with shorts, that’s so not fashionable. It doesn’t even look like clothes!”

Why do you think fashion is important to girls?
They want to look their best for dates. Or to attract boys.

Do you have any fashion/beauty/make-up tips for everyone out there?
“When you are putting on make-up, try to…express your feelings.”

–  Nurulhuda (9)

Why do people wear make-up?
“So that you present yourself better, and feel more confident. And comfortable.”

So what are your thoughts on make-up?
“They become nicer people when they put on make-up, really! I don’t know why…”

–  Kia Wee (9) & Kia Seng (8)

Why do people wear make-up?
“Cos it’s fashionable for parties.”

What is fashionable?
“When people go out to show their new shirts in fashion shows, they wear make-up.”

Do you know why girls like make-up?
“Maybe because it’s colourful, like rainbows.”

On guyliner…
“I think they want to make their eyeballs darker.”

– Ahmad Habibullah (7)

Why do you like make-up?
“I think make up is good because it is creative, stylish, nice and neat.”

So should everyone put on make-up?
“Not everyone needs make-up…some people when they wear make-up they look even uglier. But some need. They look so plain, like zombie. My mother sometimes powders herself like a zombie.”

Do you have any fashion/beauty/make-up tips for everyone out there?
“Yes, drink plenty of water, and no late suppers, otherwise you get so fat. Be healthy and go out, have fun, look at other people and smile.”

– Nur Batrisya (8)
