Famous Mothers

Famous Mothers

theAsianparent.com would like to salute all the mothers whose endless care and limitless love have made us who we are today.

She was the one that bore the pain of bringing you to this world, the one that stayed by your side all day and night while you were sick. She is the one whose smile can create a laugh, whose touch can dissolve all problems and whose love can heal the world. Yes, our mothers.

We all know that being a mother isn’t always easy. In light of this, we put together a list of our top 3 ultimate favourite women who manage to embody pretty much every single thing a woman is about – balancing flourishing careers, handling the pressures of being a mother, wife and child, and making women all over the world proud.

Kimora Lee Simmons-Hounsou

This is one woman who truly lives Life in the Fab Lane. This stunning lady, of Japanese-African heritage, is the embodiment of the international woman. The 35-year old is not only a successful model and the President and Creative Director of Phat Fashions, she also manages to perfectly balance it with bringing up her family of 3 children, daughters Ming Lee and Aoki Lee, and son Kenzo Lee Hounsou, 11, 9 and 2 respectively.

On top of all of that, we love that she is so in touch with the community, being the founder of the Kimora Lee Simmons Scholarship Fund for high-potential students with financial needs, and a strong advocator of youth empowerment and development causes. The mayor of her hometown, St. Louis, even named March 18 “Kimora Day” in her honour.

Madhuri Dixit

We just have to say this film star is exactly that, a shining star.

The Bollywood film veteran, with more than 60 movies and 30 awards and nominations in her career, has been named one of the Top 5 Most Powerful Indian Movie Stars, as well as “Bollywood’s Best Actress Ever”.

She left the scene after her award-winning performance in Devdas for some private time and dedicated focus on raising her two sons (Arin, 8 and Raayan, 6). In 2007, at 41 years old, she made her onscreen comeback after 6 years in the film Aaja Nachle – looking even more fabulous than ever.

Nadya Hutagalung

What’s not to love? We are only left wondering how she does it, since the drop-dead gorgeous Indonesian-Australian mother of three leads the life of a model, actress, VJ and talented jewellery designer.

In spite of her busy schedule, we salute the fact that most of her free-time is dedicated to humanitarian causes, preservation of endangered species, and the environment. Her passionate interest in the environment has made her the perfect ambassador for Earth Hour Singapore and Conservation International. She also began her own website, “Green Kampong” (www.greenkampong.com) in promotion of environmental awareness.

And they are just shining examples of women that we all know personally who so effectively juggles their role as mothers and professionals on a daily basis.  So lift your glasses, ladies, daughters, sisters, mothers, and give yourself a toast, because you deserve it!

Happy Mother’s Day!!
