HCSA and TTSH Strengthen Partnership to Eliminate Hepatitis C in Singapore

To mark World Hepatitis Day 2025, HCSA Community Services and Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to expand their joint efforts to eliminate Hepatitis C (HCV) among former drug offenders in Singapore. The partnership strengthens the Educate, Test, Treat! (ETT) initiative, first launched in 2022 with support from Gilead Sciences.

Highlights

  • MoU formalised in presence of Minister of State Rahayu Mahzam, reinforcing cross-sector collaboration between healthcare providers and community organisations.

  • Saliva-based HCV screening – Non-invasive testing method makes screening more accessible for high-risk groups.

  • Phase 3 of the ETT initiative (Aug 2025–Dec 2026) will screen up to 600 individuals and provide:

    • Educational outreach

    • HCV screenings and viral load testing

    • Liver fibrosis assessments

    • Antiviral treatment

    • Post-treatment confirmation of cure

    • Social and financial support via HCSA

  • Strong track record in Phase 2 – 85% of screening target reached to date, with 93% of antibody-positive participants and 68.5% of confirmed HCV cases receiving timely treatment.

  • Partnership supported by Gilead Sciences and Tzu Chi Foundation, strengthening access to care and support for vulnerable groups.

This partnership reflects Singapore’s commitment to WHO’s global Hepatitis C elimination goals and helps restore dignity and health to underserved communities.
