Educational Fun - Monumental Walking Tours

Educational Fun - Monumental Walking Tours

Learn about history the monumental way from June 2011

History comes alive for the whole family as the Preservation of Monuments Board (PMB) launches 20 new walking tours.  So why not spend the weekends this June holiday, unearthing little known facts about the monuments around Singapore.

If you or your kids ever wondered what Singapore was like in the past, this is the perfect activity for your whole family.  Learn about the architecture and fascinating historical facts of places like the Central Fire Station, former Hill Street Police Station, the Supreme Court and many more through these guided walks.   Find out how the Fire Brigade and Police Force was formed or even discover more about how minorities established their presence here.  Listen and read amusing anecdotes of the people in the past as you walk through the tour.

This is simply a great opportunity for the family to find out more about Singapore.  However, it can get very warm during each 1.5hr tour, wear comfortable clothes, walking shoes and don’t forget to bring bottled water.  As a safety precaution, these tours are more suited to children aged 7 and above, as the walks from monument to monument might involve crossing roads.

This June, the tours will be held on 11, 12, 18, 19, 25 and 26th of June.  Each tour will be at a special rate of $5 per adult and $3 per student/senior citizen.  There are limited spaces available for each tour so hurry and register your family for one.  Email the name of the tour, your name, age, NRIC and contact number to [email protected].  For information on tour synopsis and schedules, visit www.pmb.sg.
