Drunk mum pushes stroller down a highway

Here is another unfortunate case of irresponsible parenting in the form of a drunk mother who was arrested by the police for pushing her stroller down a highway. We shine the spotlight on irresponsible parents and recap 5 infamous cases.

Irresponsible mother arrested by police

Brooke Herrin, 23, recently became the centre of media attention for all the wrong reasons. According to an article published by the Huffington Post, the mother of a 7-month old child was arrested by the police after they received complaints of a young intoxicated woman obstructing traffic as she was pushing a stroller containing her baby along a Virginia freeway.

Brooke was apparently so intoxicated that she was having trouble walking. Meanwhile, police officers who arrested Brooked stated that her baby was not wearing sufficient clothes and was very cold. Brooke was also believed to be carrying drugs, as a heroin-like substance was found on her. The police are now charging Brooke with three offences, namely being intoxicated in public, possible drug possession and disregard of a child. Her baby is now in the care of Brooke’s family members after Social Services removed the child from Brooke’s care. Herrin is now detained at Western Tidewater Regional Jail in Suffolk.

Shining the spotlight on irresponsible parents

The case of Brooke Herrin once again shines the spotlight on irresponsible parents. Ask any parent and many would testify that their children were the best thing that ever happened to them. However while most parents provide unconditional love for their children, there are numerous cases of irresponsible parents who aren’t fit to be called parents. While the case of Brooke Herrin illustrates an example of horrible parenting, believe it or not, there are even worst cases of irresponsible parenting and the actions of some of these irresponsible parents have even led to the deaths of their child.

1. Catalina Clouser

One look at this pink haired 19-year-old American teen mum and it is pretty obvious that she is not a responsible mother. However I am sure anyone would be shocked at just how irresponsible she is. According to a report published in the Stir, after smoking marijuana, Catalina drove back home while her baby was strapped to the car seat on the roof of her car. Miraculously, the baby did not suffer any injuries despite the fact that the car seat fell off the car roof at a traffic intersection. Worst still, Catalina did not realise her mistake till she returned home.

2. Joshua Stryzinski

Another infamous case reported by the Stir tells the case of an irresponsible teen parent, 18-year-old Joshua Stryzinski killed his own 4-month-old daughter when he forgot that she was inside his car and left her alone to visit his parents. His daughter died from the extreme heat.

3. Galina Ryabkova

Not all infamous irresponsible parents are young American teenagers, they are all over the globe. Galina Ryabkova from Russia is probably somewhere high up on the list. Galina threw her two young sons, aged 4 and 7-years-old down their fifteenth storey balcony resulting in their deaths. Why? When interrogated, Ryabkova simply said that she was “fed up with the children” and “decided to get rid of them”.

4. Sallehan Allaudin

While the previous cases boil down to mental problems or immaturity, Sallehan Allaudin’s case is a result of lack of anger management. Sallehan’s case attracted a lot of media attention earlier in the year when Singapore found out that he killed his 23-month-old daughter Nikkie, beating her up when he found her playing with his cigarette butts.

5. Lyndsey Fiddler

26-year-old Lyndsey Fiddler killed her 10-day-old baby when she placed her baby inside the washing machine. Worst still, it was the baby’s aunt who discovered the dead baby since Lyndsey was unconscious from taking drugs. Lyndsey has had a history of irresponsible parenting behaviour which includes taking drugs while pregnant. In fact, her irresponsibility was so bad her own relatives tried to get Lyndsey’s parenting rights revoked.
