9-Year-Old Girl Dies After Being Knocked Down And Hitting Head, Father Donates Her Organs To Those In Need

9-Year-Old Girl Dies After Being Knocked Down And Hitting Head, Father Donates Her Organs To Those In Need

A stark reminder to all parents to be careful whenever kids fall over or hit something.

A father in China is donating his 9-year-old daughter’s organs after her heartbreaking death caused by a tragic accident at her school. The child reportedly fell down a school corridor and hit her head.

While he did not mention the primary school’s name, the father took to social media to share how the school has made an apology and compensated him. They have also reportedly punished the teachers for their carelessness as they did not immediately send his daughter for medical care.

Child hit her head and fainted in school corridor

It was reported by the Xiaoxiang Morning Herald that Huang Qin’s daughter, nicknamed Tongtong, died three months ago. This happened after her classmate accidentally knocked her down the corridor of their school in Qinzhou, Guangxi Zhuang autonomous region, Southern China.

On the morning of 20 October 2021, the students of Tongtong’s class were running “excitedly” out of their classroom to attend PE. Amidst the commotion, the young girl was pushed over by a classmate. She then bumped her head into a wall and fainted on the spot.

The corridor’s surveillance camera showed a PE teacher having to half-carry and half-drag the child to the teacher’s office. Upon seeing the footage, Huang said it could be seen how his daughter’s arms and head were hanging down as she had lost consciousness.

When Tongtong came to some time later, her form teacher let her drink a cup of red sugar water. When asked if she was comfortable, the child shook her head to tell the teacher that there was nothing wrong with her, according to reports.

The form teacher also told Huang that Tongtong had forgiven her classmate who knocked her over after the student was brought to the office to apologise to her.

“She was so young that she didn’t realise the seriousness of her injury. She then ran out to attend the PE class,” Huang said, as per South China Morning Post.

Her injury was more serious than they thought

The father was only told about the incident several hours later it happened. Huang said a teacher had called to tell him of Tongtong’s injuries.

Upon reaching his daughter, he found a lump the size of an egg above his daughter’s ear. He also said how the young girl wasn’t even able to swallow.

Huang then immediately called for an ambulance. But since it did not show up for a while, he decided to just drive his own car to take his daughter to the hospital.

Doctors told Huang that there was blood in his daughter’s brain. This is an indicator for them not to carry out any surgery.

9-year-old Tongtong tragically died from brain damage nine days later.

“She told me she forgot to eat lunch at noon. This is the last sentence my daughter left me,” shared the devastated father.

He added, “I was distraught. I scolded the teachers, blaming them for not detecting the problem earlier.”

After the death of his daughter, Huang decided to donate her organs to those in need. He donated seven of her organs including her corneas, heart and kidneys.

“When I signed the organ donation document, I cried and my hands shook. The images of my child, so lively and cute, appeared in front of me,” said the father, according to South China Morning Post.

Huang also wrote on social media, “I don’t want to be a hero praised by others. I just want to let my daughter’s heart continue beating.”

“I hope she could stay in this world in another way. It is also a motivation for us to live on. I feel relieved that she has helped other people and saved their lives. We have received warmth from society before and now we’ve tried our best to return to society. I believe my daughter will support my decision,” he concluded his post.

What You Should Do When Your Child Has A Head Injury

This comes as a reminder to all parents and caretakers to always be mindful and alert whenever your child happens to fall over or hit something hard. Especially if what they happen to have bumped is their delicate little heads.

If your child has a head injury, KidsHealth advises you should seek medical attention right away if they:

  • Are an infant
  • Lost consciousness
  • Feel head or neck pain
  • Won’t stop crying
  • Vomit multiple times
  • Don’t wake up easily
  • Are not walking or talking normally

We could never really know the severity or impact an injury could have on a child. Let us be careful to have any type of injury be thoroughly examined and sent for medical treatment if needed.

Stay safe and take care!
