What better way than to set aside some time this weekend, getting creative with your little ones! Here are our 5 simple steps for your very own DIY family tree...

DIY Family Tree in 5 simple steps!

DIY Family Tree in 5 simple steps!

Follow our simple steps to start the project.. (hit next!)
All the materials

All the materials

For this project you will need:
-1 canvas
-2 paintbrushes of different sizes
-1 palette
-acrylic paint s

If you want to get creative with the kids: get primary colors and use our color wheel to guide you on how to make any color you need with just red, yellow and blue! (Scroll down for color wheel)
If you want to use premixed paint colors: 5-6 colors of acrylic paint including brown, black and bright colors will work too!

Now your all set for your DIY family tree!
Step 1

Step 1

Grab a canvas and draw up a simple tree. Once this is done, choose a brown colour to paint the trunk of the tree! Remember to leave enough space on the the paper for the hand-prints of every family member to get a perfect family tree. The hand-prints will be the "leaves" on your tree.

Tip : When filling in the tree with paint, use a thicker paint-brush! This gives you better strokes and texture.
Step 2

Step 2

Try to get everyone in the family to do this project so that each family member is represented in your family tree! Start by applying paint on the palm of your hand and spreading an even layer all around to the fingertips.

Tip :Make sure there is a generous amount of paint on hands. This will leave a more solid hand-print on your paper.
Step 3

Step 3

Each family member takes turns to firmly lay their hands down on the paper, on their chosen branch, one hand at a time. Make sure the hand-prints are spread out evenly on the branches your family tree.

Tip : Remember to put pressure from palm to fingertip, so that the paint spreads evenly to create a perfect hand-print!
Step 4

Step 4

Try to think of a suitable quote that you would like to include on your family tree poster! Or perhaps you have a special family motto or saying.

Tip : When writing the text for your quote or saying, use a thinner paint-brush for neater and prettier lettering!
Step 5

Step 5

Your masterpiece is done! Have it framed and hang your very own DIY family tree collaboration.
