This news story shook not only one country, but also the entire region: A 33-year-old man in Taiwan beheaded a helpless four-year-old girl in front of her mother and grandfather and did so in broad daylight.
Reports from the Shanghaiist said that the man, surnamed Wang, had been wandering Taipei’s Xihu Metro Station after purchasing a cleaver from shop. As he walked about, he spotted a little girl whose mini scooter had gotten stuck in a pothole.

“At first I thought he was going to lift up the bike to help my daughter,” the mother said, according to a CNN report. “When I walked over to tell him that it’s OK, I saw both of them fall on the ground, and the suspect was wielding the knife and cutting my daughter.”
“I saw the suspect slashing my daughter with a cleaver. I immediately grabbed him but I could not pull him away.”

The people nearby quickly jumped in to help the mother and began attacking the suspect themselves until the police came.
It was said that the 33-year-old mad had been suffering from mental illness.
Love not hate
The most shocking thing about the whole incident was the way with which the bereaved mother handled the tragedy, not with hate but with compassion and love.
In a Facebook post which moved the entire nation, she said:
“Please keep trusting people because society is still beautiful. Please give your dearest family members a hug. That would be the most comforting and caring thing you could do for us.”

She also said that everyone was welcome to visit her daughter’s wake, but under one condition: that they come without hatred in their hearts.
At the entrance of her daughter’s wake, a message read:

“I have never believed that hatred and recrimination can solve problems.
“That’s why we have always educated her in a loving, gentle way. She has accomplished her mission in this beautiful world and left without a care. I hope she can go on her way surrounded by love.”
