REAL STORIES: “My dad is my Hero." Food Delivery Rider Dad is a Hero to His Son

“It was one of the best moments of my life that I will never forget," shared the dad.

Since the pandemic, food delivery riders have acted as our everyday heroes. They help us stay home safe by delivering food to our doorstep. So many times, their sacrifices go unnoticed. But one delivery rider received the great honour of being idolised by his son when the latter decides to dress up as a delivery rider for a school activity.

In this article, you’ll read:

  • Boy dressed up as a delivery rider for his school presentation
  • “Dad is my hero” – why he decided to dress up like his dad
  • Delivery rider dad’s thoughts and advice on parenting

As children, the first set of people we look up to and admire are our parents. We appreciate and idolize them for what they do to take care of us. In one primary school, the students were asked to dress up as the people they aspire to be in the future. One boy decided to dress up like his father – a Deliveroo rider.

Meet Farilluddin Bin Ahmad Zainuddin, the 41 years old Deliveroo rider dad whose passion for his job made him a hero figure to his son.

In an interview with theAsianparent, Farilluddin Bin Ahmad Zainuddin admitted that he was surprised when he found out that his son was going to dress up as him for his school presentation. He said that they had never talked about this before and that he had no idea his son found his job very interesting.

“It was one of the best moments of my life that I will never forget” he shared.

Delivery rider dad

Farilluddin Bin Ahmad Zainuddin started as a Deliveroo rider in 2019. He started riding as a cyclist and worked his way towards being upgraded into using a motorcycle – a personal goal he always had.

Riding with his company Deliveroo gives Mr Farilluddin the freedom to plan his schedule. He fondly talks about being able to eat lunch, dinner and having the time to cook for and with his family. He also liked being able to fetch his kids when his wife is unable to.

When it comes to parenting, the delivery rider dad emphasizes the importance of having a work-life balance. Fun fact: he was a former Outlet Manager for an F&B company for about four years before becoming a Deliveroo rider.

His advice to other parents

He shared that in his previous job, there was a lack of flexibility. He was not able to put his family first. This is why he values being a Deliveroo rider, because of the opportunity to have more family time.

As the provider for his family, Mr Farilluddin shared that people who join this kind of job or the delivery rider industry should be disciplined with their money in order to create their goal savings.

Some hardships in his line of work include riding under the heat of the sun to deliver food. But completing his day to day tasks as a Deliveroo rider gives him a sense of fulfilment.

“It makes me happy when I’m able to cheer customers up with their meals!” he shared.

Farilluddin and his son

As mentioned earlier, Farilluddin was caught by surprise when his 10-year-old son approached him and told him that he wanted to dress up as a food delivery rider for his school presentation.

“When my son, Aydin, approached me for help to dress like a Deliveroo rider for his school presentation around the theme, ‘I Aspire to Be…’, it caught me by surprise! As a father, my goal in life is to provide a better life for my family, and it’s heartwarming to know that I’ve made such a positive influence in his life and that he is proud of me,” he shared.

He and his son even had lots of fun moments creating his son’s look.

“We had a lot of fun putting together his outfit for the day. Unfortunately, my shirt was too big for him but I was able to lend him my Deliveroo thermal bag. He even put on a helmet to complete his look!” he fondly shared.

While Farilluddin was touched that his son considered him as a role model, he also commended Aydin for having the confidence to tell his schoolmates about it.

“While I might be a source of inspiration for Aydin, I’m also very proud of him, especially for having the courage to present in front of his peers and teachers. He did so well that he clinched the ‘Top 3 Best Presentation’ award during the school event! I hope we can continue to inspire each other,” he said.

It is very evident and obvious that Farilluddin Bin Ahmad Zainuddin is a very big family guy.

“My wife, two sons and daughter are very important to me. They are a huge reason why I am dedicated to my job,” he passionately points out.

Farilluddin Bin Ahmad Zainuddin is definitely a doting father. Aligning his line of work to have the chance to spend more time with his family says a lot about his character as a father and in general. No wonder his son aspires to be just like his delivery rider dad.

Real-life moments and stories like this remind us how simple yet purposeful life can be. Farilluddin’s story and his dedication as a father and Deliveroo rider should remind us to work hard, be dedicated and be passionate about the things that we do.

Plus, we should be reminded of the efforts and sacrifices our parents do for us. We should always be grateful for the gift of family.
