Recently, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission and Thorley Industries announced the recall of baby swings and rockers. They recall more than two million MamaRoo swings and RockaRoo rockers.
It is all because of the strangulation death of a 10-month-old infant and the class call involving another child. Authorities recalled about 2 million MamaRoo swings and around 220,000 RockaRoo rockers.
They used to sell the product at Buybuy and Target stores nationwide. They also sold these online through 4moms.com and Amazon.
The company started selling these baby products back in January 2010 until August 2022. According to the notice posted by the CPSC, the products cost between $160 and $250.
How the Baby Swing Caused an Infant’s Death
There are certain incidents when babies using the 4moms products suffer from severe injuries. The dangers of baby swings sparked more issues when they caused the death of an infant.
The 10-month-old infant died from asphyxiation. Meanwhile, another 10-month-old baby suffered from bruising to his neck; fortunately, a caregiver was able to rescue the baby in time.
The incident when a 10-month-old infant died happened in December 2020. Meanwhile, the prior injury happened in 2018.
About this, the 4moms received two reports regarding their unoccupied MamaRoo infant swing. According to reports, babies are getting entangled in the strap after they crawl under the product’s sear.
Infants Capable of Crawling Should Stop Using Swings and Rockers
Authorities are advising families with infants who can crawl to stop using the recalled swings and rockers. It will essential for them to put away the product in areas where babies cannot find and reach them.
The products involved in the recall include MamaRoo models using a three-point harness. The versions 1.0 and 2.0 (model number 4M-005), version 3.0 (model number 1026) and version 4.0 (model number 1037). Meanwhile, the recalled RockaRoo has model number 4M-012.
Because of the recall, Bloom & Grow Singapore reached out to news outlets to warn parents about the baby swings they sold. They also urged parents to claim fasteners from to avoid further risks from the infant swings.

According to the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), it will never be advisable to let your child fall asleep in any infant seating devices. It does not necessarily pertain to baby swings, but also bouncy chairs, rockers, and other carriers.
The risk of the baby getting injured happens when the baby falls asleep in a semi-upright position. The baby’s head will fall to the chin, which increases the risk of asphyxiation.
Concerning this, AAP recommends parents transfer their babies to a safe sleep environment like a crib or bassinet. This is the best way they can do when the baby is about to fall asleep in the swing.
The AAP also urged parents to move their babies when they fall asleep on swings, car seats, strollers, and similar products.
