5 dangerous things for kids in your very own house

16 Oct, 2013

Some children love to get up to mischief. Fingers in fans, using the bookshelf as a ladder...the list goes on. Maybe you thought weren't at all a risk. Here are 5 dangerous things for kids that can be found in your home. Time for some extra child-proofing, mums?

Cabinets

Cabinets

How do you child-proof a cabinet to stop children from climbing up it and falling off? Our 6-year-old climbed our cabinet to get to the lolly stash! Be aware that cabinets can be seen as the perfect step-ladder to your little monkey. Not fun for anyone when he falls off it.
Kid's stools

Kid's stools

Climbing and falling off them in the house is one thing. But when kids take their stool to the balcony, or stack them on top of each other, it could result in disaster.
Batteries

Batteries

Don't know about you but I've seen my fair share of children either sucking on or licking batteries. It would be every parent's nightmare if the battery contents leak. And don't forget button batteries which impose a choking hazard.
Bed canopy

Bed canopy

A climbing hazard! I was at a furniture shop recently and was appalled by the sight of 2 little boys jumping on the mattress to get up the canopy ( a flatter version of the one in the picture). It may look cute, but a bed canopy can pose a real danger if your kid likes climbing!
Flat screen TV

Flat screen TV

Every household has one– the flat screen TV. As we know, kids love pulling things...and they can sometimes accidentally pull on wires attached to the TV. If not fixed to the wall, the flat design makes it easier for the TV to topple over onto your child.
