Dance with the whole family at Got to Move 2017

Beat the routine, bond with your family and dance with Got to Move 2017. The National Arts Council brings you the third edition of this nationwide dance movement with a refreshed look and feel.

What’s happening at Got to Move 2017 Singapore?

Got to Move (GTM) is a nationwide dance movement that celebrates the diversity of dance in Singapore. From 13 to 29 October, take part in more than 220 free dance-related activities – from Malay to Contemporary Dance, to Bollywood and Urban Dance, GTM’s programmes make it easy for everyone to appreciate and enjoy this art form!

Here are our top 5 picks for family-friendly activities at GTM 2017.

1. Multi-Generation Barn Dance Workshop

21 October, 7 – 9pm @ The DanceSport Academy, Chinese Swimming Club

Let loose as a family and dance along to traditional folk music! This multi-generational barn dance workshop is family-oriented with simple, fun and social steps suitable for all ages, from grandparents to grandchildren!

2. I can dance to Keith Haring

22 October, 10am – 12.15pm @ The Artground Whitebox, Goodman Arts Centre

Kids are naturally curious, and an integrated arts programme like “I can Dance to Keith Haring” satisfies that curiosity through the use of arts and crafts with dance. Through a unique combination of Pop Art and Hip Hop, this programme is aimed at building creativity and re-defining arts appreciation for children, and is sure to pique the interest of your young ones.

3. Happy Feet, Healthy Minds!

22 – 28 October, various timings and locations

Catch a performance preview, join a lively roundtable discussion on dance, or groove with friends and family at the Rolypoly Family Dance Party! These sessions bring dance to unique spaces and encourage the exploration of dance in unconventionally fun ways.

4. AnyBody Can Dance (ABCD)

29 October, 4.30 – 5.30pm @ Toa Payoh Town Park Pavilion & Lawn

Using elements of dance and clowning as forms of self-expression and therapy, this series of dance workshops introduce simple steps to everyone, from kids to adults, including individuals with disabilities. Join the mass Zumba session on 29 October for a playful and judgement-free dance session, where dancing will be as easy as ABCD!

5. GTM SPOTLIGHT

29 October, 8am – 12pm @ the Civic District

GTM SPOTLIGHT is the highlight event of Got to Move 2017. Get your dose of cardio in the GTM Dance-Walk, try out new dance styles at the Taster Zone, catch performances at the Main Stage & Chill Out Zone, meet with the local dance community at the Dance Info Fair, and enjoy a ton of interactive activities – all for FREE! Take this opportunity to get information about dance performances, activities and classes that happen throughout the year, introduce your little ones to a new style of dance and sign them up for more!
