In addition to rising community cases, Singapore is also detecting positive cases in different schools. Few primary schools students and staff members have become the latest victims of the dreaded infection.
Along with Raffles Institution, positive Covid cases were recently traced in six primary schools.
This includes Concord Primary School, Horizon Primary School, Naval Base Primary School, Opera Estate Primary School, Punggol Cove Primary School and Yangzheng Primary School.
All schools have sent out letters to parents and guardians regarding the situation.
More Community Covid Cases Detected In 6 Primary Schools
1. Concord Primary School

In a letter to parents and guardians dated 13 July, Concord Primary School notified that a student from class 1E tested positive for Covid-19.
The letter states the student was last in school on 9 July, and was still feeling well on that day.
Due to this case, the whole school was placed on Home-based Learning (HBL) from 14 to 16 July last week. This allowed the school to conduct a thorough cleaning and disinfecting of their premises.

2. Horizon Primary School

According to a letter circulated to parents and guardians of students from Horizon Primary School, one of their staff members tested positive for Covid-19.
The letter dated 18 July, states the staff member was last in school on Thursday (15 July). It also noted that the officer is a household member of a confirmed Covid case.
While the school did mention conducting HBL, the letter added, “We would like to assure you that the school had been and will continue to tightly implement safe management measures. These measures are in place to ensure that our school remains a safe environment for teaching and learning.”

3. Naval Base Primary School

A Primary 6 student from Naval Base Primary School tested positive for Covid-19, according to a circular dated 16 July.
The letter informed parents and guardians that the student is a close contact of an existing case from the same household. It added that the student was last in school on 13 July.
Although the school did not mention conducting HBL for students, they said, “We have been cleaning high touch surfaces and disinfecting school premises. There have been daily temperature checks and visual screening.”
“These measures are in place to ensure that our School remains a safe environment for teaching and learning,” their letter added.

4. Opera Estate Primary School

In a notice from the school to parents and guardians of Opera Estate Primary School, it was notified that a student from Primary 6 tested positive for infection.
The student was last in school on Monday (12 July). The letter notes that the pupil was feeling well that day.
However, the letter did not mention whether the school will be conducting HBL for students.

5. Punggol Cove Primary School

A student from Primary 3 at Punggol Cove Primary School also recently tested positive for Covid.
The primary schooler was last seen in school on Thursday (15 July) and was well at the time. The notice sent to parents and guardians also noted that the student is a household member of a confirmed case.
The school will also be conducting full HBL for all students in Primary 3 only. This will be from Monday (19 July) to Wednesday (21 July).
But since 20 July is a public holiday, there will be no FHBL for students on that day.

6. Yangzheng Primary School

Among the latest Covid cases in primary schools comes another one from Yangzheng Primary School, where a Primary 2 student tested positive for the infection.
The P2 student was last in school on Thursday (15 July) and was still well when they were present in school. Since then, the school has undergone thorough cleaning and disinfecting, specifically on Saturday.
The school has moved to HBL for all P2 students from Monday to Wednesday. As Tuesday is a public holiday, classes will not be conducted on this day.

Contact Tracing Conducted To Identify Those Who Have Been In Close Contact With Covid Cases In Schools
Students and staff who have been in close contact with the Covid cases in these schools have also been placed under Leave of Absence (LOA) and have been identified through TraceTogether data.
The Ministry of Health (MOH) has also directly contacted parents of those who have been identified as close contact of a Covid-19 case.
The schools have also assured parents that the close contacts are healthy and they are “performing a social duty to isolate themselves as a precaution.”
