COVID-19 Case Visited Mosque in Bedok North 8 Times From 26 Jun to 2 Jul: MUIS

Friday prayers will be carried out as planned on Friday (10 Jul).

A confirmed case of COVID-19 visited the Masjid Al-Ansar in Bedok North for evening prayers 8 times, between the period of 26 June 2020 and 2 July 2020, said Islamic Religious Council of Singapore (MUIS) in a press release (9 Jul).

Ministry of Health (MOH) also notified Masjid Al-Ansar of the confirmed case.

The individual was at Masjid Al-Ansar (located at 155 Bedok North Ave 1) on these occasions:

  • 26 June 2020 (8.43pm to 8.59pm)
  • 27 June 2020 (7.25pm to 7.39pm)
  • 27 June 2020 (8.36pm to 8.54pm)
  • 28 June 2020 (7.21pm to 7.38pm)
  • 28 June 2020 (8.40pm to 8.58pm)
  • 30 June 2020 (7.21pm to 7.35pm)
  • 1 July 2020 (8.32pm to 8.55pm)
  • 2 July 2020 (8.34pm to 8.51pm)

MUIS said that MOH traced the COVID-19 case’s whereabouts because of processes that mosques have put in place.

MUIS said that Masjid Al-Ansar was closed from the evening of 7 July and 8 July 2020 as a precautionary measure.

Comprehensive cleaning and disinfection was carried out.

The mosque resumed prayer services the following day on Thursday (9 Jul). MUIS also said Friday prayers will be carried out as planned on Friday (10 Jul).

Advises Those Who Visited Mosque To Monitor Health Closely

MOH however said other worshippers are at low risk of being infected.

Nevertheless, MUIS advises members of the public who have been to Masjid Al-Ansar at these specified times to monitor their health closely for 14 days from their date of visit. They should seek treatment if they do not feel well.

MUIS reminds the community to remain vigilant, and follow all safe management procedures stipulated by their mosques.

Vulnerable groups in particular, such as the elderly, children, and those with chronic respiratory conditions are strongly encouraged not to come to the mosque and to perform their prayers at home instead.

Congregational worship services at mosques resumed last month, with online bookings required due to a limit on the number of individuals permitted per session.
