5 things you need to know about Costa cruises

12 Mar, 2014

Ever wanted to travel to Venice, Rome or Pisa? What if you could experience the charm of Italy right here in Southeast Asia? Creating a real fusion of East meets West, Costa cruises gives you the experience of "Italy at sea" across Southeast Asia, with the Costa Victoria departing from Singapore and with docking ports situated in Malacca, Penang, Phuket and Langkawi. If, however, you’re fortunate enough to spend some time in Italy itself, Costa cruises are available with docking stations in Europe too!

Whether you’ve sailed the seven seas or are planning your first cruise holiday, Costa cruises are a holiday not to be missed. There’s really no excuse not to book your Costa experience. With cruises lasting from as little as 4 days 3 Nights, Costa cruises are the perfect choice for families, couples or friends who are constrained by their busy schedules.

If you're still not convinced to book a Costa cruise already, check out these 5 things you need to know about Costa cruises.

1. Excursions

1. Excursions

Depending on which Costa Cruise package from Singapore you decide to choose, you could find yourself in Malaysia or Thailand. With several different dock locations for Costa cruises, the choice is up to you. Be it the serene islands of Langkawi, Malaysia or the perfectly white, sandy beaches of Phuket, Thailand, you really cannot go wrong.

Docking times are worked out so you get the opportunity to have an entire day exploring your surroundings, try local dishes or soak up the sun and let your kids play on the beach. What’s fantastic about this is that if your kids (or yourselves) get tired, the Costa Victoria will be there for you to go back to should you want an afternoon nap, something to eat or just to use the extensive amenities onboard.

2. Amenities

2. Amenities

If excursions aren’t your thing, there’s no need to worry. There’s plenty to do right onboard a Costa cruise. The tranquil indoor and outdoor swimming pools and jacuzzis create a relaxed atmosphere and are there for you to take a dip, regardless of weather conditions. The Costa Victoria even has a gym and basketball court if you feel like working out or shooting some hoops.

After a long day of tiring activities or exploring on shore, what could be more perfect than unwinding in the Costa Victoria’s very own Pompei Spa area. The spa has an indoor, thalassotherapy pool with enriched deep sea water that soothes muscle aches and pains. What’s more, massages, spa and beauty treatments are readily available if you feel like sprucing yourself up for the evening.

3. Themed dinners and activities for kids

3. Themed dinners and activities for kids

If you fancy some alone time away from your little ones, Costa cruises has this covered. With themed evening dinners including Pirate, Fun Fair and Face Painting Parties, the specially trained staff at Costa Cruises are more than willing to take your kids off your hands, while you enjoy a romantic night in, or out. Grab this chance to enjoy a nice and quiet meal at the pizzeria or fine dining restaurant onboard that serves up the best Italian and Asian cuisine.

Also, Costa’s fantastic kids’ club, Squok Club is great if you feel like going on an excursion or spending the day alone. You can rest in peace or enjoy yourself, with the security of knowing your kids are in the safe hands of Costa cruise staff and the cheery Squok mascot. From treasure hunts to mural and t-shirt painting, there are tons of activities that will keep them occupied and entertained with recreational fun.

4. Special Performances

4. Special Performances

You’ll never spend your nights onboard a Costa Cruise bored or struggling to find something to do. Every night the theatre showcases live performances including, tribute acts, comedy and theatre shows. Costa has your nightly schedule planned so you don’t have to waste your time figuring out what to do every night.

However, it’s not just the special performances in the theatre every night that make your Costa Cruise experience that much more special - the entire staff themselves create a lively and exciting atmosphere from the second you step on board. Performing quirky dance routines whilst simultaneously taking your food order is just one of the ways in which the staff on deck of Costa cruises really go that extra mile.

5. Costa Classes

5. Costa Classes

As well as nightly special performances, the entertainment doesn’t stop there onboard a Costa cruise. Taught by industry professionals, you could come away from your Costa experience with a new dance move or two up your sleeve and even shake up a storm when you get home, showing off your newly found cocktail making skills.

So, do you fancy learning how to Salsa, Rumba or do the Tango? Or would you like to show off your dance moves to the rest of the Costa guests? Whatever it is, Costa dance classes are tailored for everyone, whether you just want to have a bit of fun or get serious strutting your stuff on the dance floor.

Classes on board also include cocktail making sessions. Taught by specially skilled "mixologists", you could learn how to shake (or stir) up anything from a Strawberry Daiquiri to a White Russian. Cocktail classes on board the Costa are given to small groups, so are perfect for groups of friends, couples and other adults in the family.
