Cold Storage Run

When: Sunday, 22nd May 2011

Time: 7:30am – 12pm

Where: the Padang

Featuring 2 main categories, Dash (competitive) and Chase (non-competitive), participants can sign up for the 800m distance or the newly acquired 1.6km distance. Open to children 12 years of age and below, the run is set to attract 5,000 participants.

Since its inception in 2008, more than 40,000 parents and children have taken part in the annual Cold Storage Kids Run. Last year alone, more than 18,000 children and their parents took to the tracks at the F1 Pit Building.

Parents can now look forward to being a part of the action with their children of ages 7 to 12 in the newly introduced Happy Green Family Chase. As a parent and child team, they are encouraged to cross the finish line together. The Happy Green Family Chase truly underlines the run’s aim of creating a unique family bonding opportunity through the spirit of healthy living.

Families with toddlers between 6 months and 23 months are also not left out of the run. They can participate in a firm family favourite, the Mamil Gold Stroller Chase. A distinctive non-competitive category, it will see parents from all walks of life taking their babies in strollers for a 800m fun run.

The annual Race Clinic, to be held before the race day, is designed to provide children with tips on how to prepare for the big day.  On the day of the run, an entertaining Race Carnival will be held at the Padang, where parents and kids can anticipate fun-filled activities and stand the chance to win attractive prizes. Some of the highlights of the event day include Zorbing and a Kangoo Jump Obstacle Course meant specially to keep the kids entertained.

Families are encouraged to take their kids to the event to partake in the exciting happenings on and off the tracks.

Each participant will be receive the following:

  • a Finisher Medal
  • a Finisher Certificate
  • an Event T-shirt and
  • a Goodie Bag

Drinks will be offered to all participants after the race. Top 3 winners of the competitive categories will be awarded with prizes and hampers. Prizes will also be given to the top three schools with the largest enrolment of students for the race day.

“The Annual Cold Storage Kids Run, part of the Marina Bay Urban Challenge, is a highly anticipated event amongst families,” said Mr. Victor Chia, CEO of Cold Storage Supermarket, the title sponsor of the event.  “The event gives parents the chance to inculcate the right habits of healthy eating and living in their children which emphasises our mission of The Fresh Food People. This is a fantastic opportunity for parents to get their kids to embrace and understand the importance of keeping fit from young.”
