This Father’s Day, Fitbit wants to share the benefits of yoga and the gift of balance with all dads who are juggling numerous things every day. There’s no denying the many health benefits of yoga, from increased flexibility and lowered muscle tension to decreased stress and anxiety – great benefits that we believe all dads will appreciate.

With International Yoga Day (21 June) just one day after Father’s Day (20 June) this year, Fitbit has compiled a list of ‘balance-focused’ yoga poses that are suitable for all dads.
- A simple “cat-cow stretch” for the chill, semi-retired dad: Start by going on all fours with your knees parallel to your hips and your wrists parallel to your shoulders. As you inhale, move into cow pose by pressing your chest forward and allowing your belly to sink. As you exhale, come into cat pose by rounding your spine outward and tuck your tailbone in, flex your core by imagining your belly button ‘touching’ your spine. Repeat.
- “Superman” hands and knees balance for the super dad: On all fours in a neutral position, lift one leg and straighten it, making sure you flex the foot in the air. Then, supporting yourself with the arm that’s parallel to your leg, straighten your other arm. Repeat on the other side.
- Downward-facing dog for the active dad: Engage the deepest of your abdominal muscles with this stretch. Squeeze your core while on all fours, then draw your hips back as high into the air as possible.
- Cobra pose for the dad who has been working from home: Lie on your stomach and place your hands palms down on the ground beneath your shoulders. Slowly lift your chest up off the ground by straightening your arms, keep your core engaged and gaze upwards. This pose will safely strengthen the back and help dads improve their posture from sitting for hours in front of the computer.

All Fitbit devices have a Yoga mode you can use to track your heart rate, calories burned and Active Zone Minutes over your session. They also have 20+ exercises available in the Exercise App, which you can add to the app by clicking ‘Workout’ in the Exercise app.
The benefits of yoga are multi-fold. Besides using it to train for strength and flexibility, relaxation is also a big part of yoga. Deep breathing is a common meditation technique also used in yoga that can help you let go of stress and maintain a quieter state of mind.
Fitbit’s Relax App goes a step further by utilising your heart-rate variability, the beat-to-beat changes in your heart rate, to personalise the breathing pattern for you.
