4 Exciting Ways To Celebrate EARTH HOUR 2017 In Singapore!

Earth hour 2017 falls on Saturday, 25 March. Here are 4 ways you can celebrate Earth Hour 2017 in Singapore!

Every year millions of people celebrate Earth Hour around the globe; homes, businesses and landmarks switch off their lights for an hour to conserve energy, in a call for action on climate change.

Earth Hour 2017 will be at 8:30 PM – 9:30 PM on Saturday, 25 March. Which is tomorrow.

Here are 4 ways you can celebrate Earth Hour 2017 in Singapore:

1. WWF – Sundown Marathon

WWF (World Wide Fund for Nature) is organising a mega event this year for Earth Hour. They have tied up with Sundown Marathon to organise the first ever sustainable marathon! Re-usable environment-friendly water bottles, jelly like water molecules and medals that can be planted to grow plants; these are just some of the ways they have to decided to make the event waste-free. Over 35,000 people are expected to take part.

Date: 25 March 2017
Location: F1 Pit Building
Time: 6.00pm-10.30pm

The main event will host a concert featuring some of Singapore’s best known artistes like DruChen, Shigga Shay and Inch Chua, among others. The countdown to lights-out at 8.30pm will be accompanied by a dramatic laser show at the Singapore Flyer.

As the Singapore skyline goes dark, the 5KM Earth Hour Run will flag off. Concurrently, iconic landmarks such as Gardens By the Bay and various buildings around Singapore will power down in support for Earth Hour.

Here is the event schedule:

2. i Light Marina Bay

In support of Earth Hour, all light installations will be switched off from 8.30pm to 9.30pm on 25 March 2017.

  • Bring your used incandescent bulbs and exchange them for new, longer lasting and energy saving LED light bulbs (Limited to one exchange only, per person per bulb).
  • Take a train or bus down to i Light Marina Bay using your ez-link card and stand a chance to win a Limited Edition i Light Marina Bay ez-link card with $28 in their daily Ride Easy lucky draw!

3. Sentosa

Sentosa and its island partners will be supporting the World Wide Fund for Nature’s (WWF) Earth Hour by switching off all non-essential lighting at Sentosa landmarks and Faber Peak Singapore from 8.30pm – 9.30pm. The Sentosa Merlion, Sentosa Boardwalk, the Gateway towers and Sentosa Cove Village will “go dark” in support of the movement.

All attractions will remain open during their regular operating hours. However, as part of the initiative, the Sentosa Merlion Magic Lights shows scheduled for 8.45pm and 9.15pm will be cancelled.

4. Malls in Singapore

Download the CapitaStar app and take part in a special Earth hour quiz!

Enter a keyword into Sparkle, the fully-automated artificial intelligence chatbot that resides in the CapitaStar app. The quiz will be launched on 25 March 2017 at 8.30pm to coincide with the launch of Earth Hour.

CapitaStar members who correctly answer Sparkle’s question before the quiz closes at 11.59pm tomorrow stand to win CapitaStar dollars . One million CapitaStar dollars for quiz participants will be up for grabs, which can be exchanged for CapitaVouchers for spending in CapitaLand malls in Singapore, or redeemed for merchant offers on the CapitaStar mobile app.

AsiaMalls shopping complexes like Tiong Bahru Plaza, Liang Court, Century Square, White Sands and Hougang Mall will also be switching off their non-essential lights from 8:30 pm(from 20-25 March)
