Braving through: Supermom Overcomes Little One’s Eczema Journey

Braving through: Supermom Overcomes Little One’s Eczema Journey

As parents, we’d do anything for our children. We purchase the finest blankets for comfort, invest in a high-quality formula, and of course, ensure we spend as much time as we can with them.

Nothing can compensate for the pain of watching your child suffer through scratches, redness, irritation, and non-healing wounds. This is the reality of eczema and the life of Supermom Elvinia and her three children.

Supermom’s Struggles

Mommy Elvinia is a doting mom of three kids. But all three of them now suffer through eczema, problems which she didn’t anticipate. While her firstborn has always had rashes issues, her 2nd and 3rd children’s skin turmoil began at the height of the pandemic.

“I was concerned to alleviate their immediate [conditions], which includes inflammation and itching. The eczema areas also end up wounding and leave scars.”

Her eldest suffers most from his eczema. He struggles to concentrate on his studies, as his itching skin causes him significant discomfort. At other times, he becomes so irritable and difficult to console and sometimes misses out on things he should be enjoying as a growing child.

All the itching has also taken a toll on their skin. Apart from redness and patchy skin, they suffer from skin discolouration and weird hair growth, as the youngest currently deals with a hair patch  on her knee. Unfortunately, these physical changes also affect her children’s view of themselves.

“My eldest has always been wearing jackets all the time even without the air conditioning and we (spouse and me) would just advise that it would make his ezcema worse. But my son would always brush it off and said he’s cold.. I spoke to him about it and now he is more opened and would sometimes remove the jacket.”

A Mom’s Sacrifice to Discover What Healing Takes

Out of desperation, Mommy Elvinia headed straight to their doctor. All three kids were prescribed to be on steroids, but when it came to eczema, they needed a lifestyle change.

As a mother, she doesn’t mind taking extra care of her children. But Mommy Elvinia admits her children’s eczema adds a toll on her. Her children usually throw tantrums when dealing with their skin issues, making routines seemingly impossible to create.

As a hands-on mother, Mommy Elvinia knows that prevention is better than cure —so she watches what they eat, wear or even touch. She pours extra attention into skin care products, doing a patch test before applying them liberally across the entire skin.

Other striking changes? Washing all their bedsheets with hot water. This helps eliminate dust mites, which can trigger itchy eczema to flare. Undeniably, eczema made things harder not just for her kids but also for her.

Unfortunately, they’re yet to pinpoint exactly what causes eczema to flare out. Causes remain uncertain, even after seeing a dermatologist and investing in Traditional Chinese Medicine. However, they did find that being diligent in using the right skincare routine is key to preventing flare-ups.

Semblances of Relief with the Right Product

Dermatologists have long advocated for moisturisers, even with eczema-free skin. According to a study in 2017, moisturisers contain anti-inflammatory, antipruritic, antimitotic, and wound-healing properties. All these combined can help reduce the effects of eczema, making it essential to invest in one for your child.

Before and after

Many mothers have found relief with Curél ’s Ceramide Care, including Mommy Elvinia. She further shares, “At the moment, Curél seems to help my daughter’s skin to feel hydrated, and she is scratching less. Also, some open wound area looks like healing.”

Curél remains Japan’s No.1 Brand for Sensitive Skin*, as it develops solutions based on extensive dermatological research on sensitive skin. It works to replenish and boost the skin’s ability to produce ceramides through the infusion of eucalyptus leaf extract, strengthening the skin against external irritants. This is key to preventing eczema flare-ups.

Moreover, Curél’s products are also formulated to be gentle and hypoallergenic. This means that the product does not contain common irritants such as fragrances, colourants, and alcohol in their body moisturizers.

All these help boost the skin’s ceramide production, which ultimately helps with healing.
