Are boys lagging behind?

According to child experts in the UK, half of the boys in nurseries and day cares are lagging behind girls when in comes to writing. The government is alarmed at the wide gap between boys and girls so it is issuing a new guidance for nurseries next month. In it will include suggestions for role-play activities that are geared towards the interests of boys.

Statistics show that one in six boys cannot write their names or three-letter phonetic words such as dog, cat and mum. The children’s minister blame this mainly on the boys’ lack of emotional development. So they are adding up activities in nurseries that will speed up these little boys’ development especially in writing. In other words, they want their little ones to be able to write as early as possible.

What do you think? Does it make sense to force kids to learn how to write early? Shouldn’t it be better to just let kids develop in their own pace?
