Teach Babies to Eat by Themselves with the Best Baby Spoon and Fork Items

Babies love to eat and they need the right tools to do so. With the appropriate baby spoon and fork, they can easily learn to feed by themselves.

A pair of baby spoon and fork can be essential in teaching your child how to feed on their own. These utensils help them with the feeding process and develop their fine motor skills. However, our regular spoons and forks are not appropriate for their small mouths and so baby items are needed.

Benefits of using baby fork and spoon set

The benefits of using a baby fork and spoon set can be seen in various ways, such as:

Baby’s development

The first step towards developing their fine motor skills is feeding themselves, which is done using baby utensils like a baby spoon and a baby fork.

In this way, babies get used to holding objects in their hands for a long period of time before feeding themselves with regular utensils such as spoons or forks.

This helps them gain control over their movements and recognise that they can use their hands for other things than just grabbing food from bowls!

Benefits of using baby fork and spoon set | Baby Spoon and Fork in Singapore

Communication skills

Babies learn how to communicate through facial expressions and gestures when they are fed by parents using a baby spoon and a baby fork during meals.

They also learn how to express their needs by crying if they want something else instead of crying if they don’t want something else. This helps them become independent sooner than later!

No more food-picking

Learning how to hold a fork or spoon makes it easier for them to pick up food from a plate later on when they start eating at home. This means no more food picking and less mess on the table!

When you introduce foods such as fruits, vegetables, meat, and so on at home, your baby will be able to understand what those things taste like if he/she has already been exposed to different types of food at an early age.

Infantino | Munchkin White Hot ® Infant Spoons | Baby Spoon and Fork in Singapore

When you search for baby spoons on Shopee Singapore, one of the first items you can notice in your search results is the unique White Hot® Safety Spoons from Munchkin, which are available at a discounted price (thanks to Mum’s Club Exclusive Price).

The cutting-edge White Hot® Safety Spoons from Munchkin can make it easier for you both to swallow those initial feedings. To determine if heated pureed baby food is too warm, simply dunk the spoon tips in it.

NumNum Pre-Spoon GOOtensil Silicone Spoon

Best Silicone Material

NumNum Pre-Spoon GOOtensil Silicone Spoon | Baby Spoon and Fork in Singapore

A silicone spoon that newborns may dip and consume is called a NumNum Pre-Spoon GOOtensil. GOOtensils can be used with a variety of foods, including oatmeal, yoghurt, mashed solids, baby food, home blends, and more.

When the infant dips it in, the dimpled heads capture enough baby food to be placed into their mouth to eat, eliminating the need for scooping.

This baby spoon, which is intended for use with purees and food mixes, facilitates self-feeding for young children just learning to use utensils.

Since the head is flat, unlike a spoon, there is no scooping, balancing, or incorrect way to hold it.

FDA and EU-grade silicone makes up the spoon’s supple, flexible portion. Nylon makes up the whiter, stiffer portion of the spoon that gives the handle its firmness.

Features we love:

  • Pre-spoons are designed to introduce the concept of utensils to kids eager to learn.
  • Reduces frustration and builds independence.
  • Made with hypoallergenic, FDA and EU-grade silicone.

How to teach a baby to use a spoon?

Teaching your baby to use baby utensils, like the baby spoon, is a great way for them to learn about food. Baby utensils can also help them develop their fine motor skills and hand-eye coordination.

But how to teach babies to use spoons in their early months? The first step is to introduce the spoon at around six months old when they’re able to sit unassisted.

You can keep this activity simple by using a small plastic spoon with a handle (like those found in baby food jars). When your child is ready, you can introduce the real thing!

The steps for using baby utensils

  1. Show him how to pick up the spoon and put it in his mouth using his thumb, then place it back down on the table or in the bowl after he has eaten some of the food with it.
  2. Ask him to close his lips around the spoon and show him how he can open them again by pressing on the handle of the spoon while holding onto his thumb with his other hand (you should be able to see that this is working because he will have opened his mouth wide enough for you to see).
  3. Encourage him to press his tongue against the back of his teeth when he opens his mouth, then show him how if he keeps doing this, he will be able to hold more food than if he just opened wide and let the food fall out into the bowl or onto their plate (This is where most children get stuck).
  4. Once your child becomes comfortable holding food in their mouth with their thumb and placing it back down on your plate or table, ask them what they or would like to eat next.
  5. When your child has mastered holding food in their mouth while they are opening and closing it, show them or how to take a bite of food with their teeth.
  6. Encourage them to chew the food thoroughly before swallowing it (this will help them learn how their body works).
  7. Eventually, your child will be able to eat food off of their own plate or bowl by themselves.
  8. When they are ready for more independence, start giving them small pieces of food that are easy to hold onto with their thumb and forefinger (or whatever fingers they prefer).

Choking is one harmful disadvantage of babies feeding themselves. You must use a baby food processor in preparing your child’s meals. Read: Best Brands of Baby Food Processors for Busy Parents in Singapore
