The best baby carriers

Baby carriers give you the hassle-free option of carrying your child with you wherever you go, whether she is a newborn or toddler. But with so many baby carriers out there on the market, how do you choose one that suits you and your baby?

To help you out, we bring you 6 of the most popular carriers, based on mums' recommendations!

SUPPORi Baby Sling

SUPPORi Baby Sling

The SUPPORi Baby Sling is becoming a top favourite of mums with babies and toddlers. It can be used once a baby can sit up on his/her own, and is able to support up to a weight of 15kg.

Putting on the SUPPORi Baby Sling is extremely easy! All you need to do is follow these 3 simple steps:

Wear the sling across your body. Put your baby in the sling. Cover your baby’s back and hips with the sling.

The sling is made from breathable mesh material, which helps to keep both mum and baby cool in the humid Singapore weather.

The flexible structure of the sling’s fabric helps to support baby’s weight over your shoulders, and reduces the risk of stiff shoulders and other related discomforts.

This also helps to promote the correct babywearing positions, while ensuring that your baby is placed snugly when he/she is being carried in the sling.

The SUPPORi Baby Sling comes in a variety of colours and sizes, according to mum’s height and weight.

Weighing at a mere 80g for an M size sling, it is so easy to take the SUPPORi Baby Sling with you when you’re out and about with your little one. Simply toss it into your diaper bag with all your other going-out essentials.

Did you know:

The SUPPORi Baby Sling looks great on Dads too, and is suitable to be used by pregnant mums.

Boba Carrier

Boba Carrier

The Boba Carrier is ideal for both babies and toddlers. It includes an integrated infant insert, which means it can be used well into toddlerhood.

The Boba carrier can be used with children weighing from 7 - 45lbs (3.2 - 20kg). Its ergonomic design, foot straps and multiple adjustments make it a sensible choice for you and your child.

Ring Slings

Ring Slings

A ring sling is a long rectangular piece of fabric that is thread through two rings for adjustability.

The tail is the piece of fabric that hangs down from the rings. Pulling on the tail tightens the sling.

Some ring slings have "open tails," or a loose piece of fabric. An open tail may have a pocket.

Others have "closed tails," which are sewn together and look like a strap. The tail may be tucked inside the sling for a more streamlined look.

Mums recommend using ring slings with newborns and smaller babies, as it's easy to get your baby high and tight in one of these.

They are also perfect for comfortable and discrete breastfeeding while you're out or on the move. Also, they allow you to snuggle your baby and do the tummy to tummy position in an easier way.

Manduca Carrier

Manduca Carrier

The Manduca carrier is the popular choice of many mothers when it comes to babywearing. Mums say this carrier is very comfortable both for them and their babies.

One of the reasons for its popularity is that this ergonomic soft-structured backpack style baby carrier is suitable for newborns & infants with no neck control, as well as toddlers & pre-schoolers up to 20kg (approx. 5 years old).

This carrier also has a wraparound design that mimics baby wraps. This means that there is no single pressure point on babies carried in it.

It also has many built-in features that ensure comfort for both the babywearer and the child in it.

Ergobaby Carrier

Ergobaby Carrier

This is another very popular choice among mums, who praise its ergonomic design that minimizes strain on both the babywearer and the baby.

According to the manufacturers of the Ergobaby Carrier, it cradles your baby just as you would do with your baby in a natural sitting position, aligning with the recommended carry position from the International Hip Dysplasia Institute.

Babies can be carried from 7 - 45lb (3.2 - 20kg) in these carriers. Your baby can also be carried in the back-carry position once he or she is old enough — generally around 6 months.

Beco Carrier

Beco Carrier

The Beco Carrier was designed by a babywearing parent, active sailor and rock climber, Gabby Caperon.

This carrier features great ergonomics and excellent weight distribution — meaning aches and pains from carrying your baby will be at a minimum.

According to the manufacturers, each carrier is handmade by a skilled seamstress in facilities which apply high social and economical standards.

The Beco carrier works best with babies newborn to 18 months. If you're a small-made mum, this could be the carrier for you as it fits petite wearers very well, especially when the straps are crossed.

BabyBjorn

BabyBjorn

This is the carrier I used for my 2nd child. While it was great when he was a newborn, I really started feeling the strain on my back and shoulders as he grew heavier.

Perhaps this is because with the BabyBjorn carrier, weight is suspended from your shoulders rather than shifted to your hips.

Nevertheless, many mums swear by the BabyBjorn and say it's the carrier of their choice.
