8 Jan, 2016
The Chinese Name Analysis System

The Chinese Name Analysis System

Thinking of a name for your new child can be a tricky task. After all, this will determine how your child is addressed, the pet names he will pick up and the name that will appear on all the important documents.

Fengshui Beginner recently published Master Jo Ching (莊裕善老师)'s analysis of the Chinese Name Analysis System (八字生肖姓名学) that can help in the choosing of a name that will bless the child.

Under this system, a person's name represents a myriad of things, such as one's closeness with parents (important), intelligence, academic performance and even the child's ability to become recognised in society.

The Chinese saying, '不怕生错命,只怕取错名’, which can be translated to: "We are not afraid of not having a good destiny path but we are worried if our name is not given correctly," reaffirms the understanding that the choice of a name is important.

So what does that mean when you are choosing a name for your child? Read on to find out!

Tigers and Monkeys do not get along.

Tigers and Monkeys do not get along.

Being born in the year of the Monkey naturally automatically conveys certain traits on the baby according to the study of the zodiac system.

Monkeys have been recognised to be one of the most witty and intelligent animals on earth. These traits are often accompanied with a sense of curiously and mischief.

Chinese Astrology argues that the signs of Monkey and Tiger have conflicting energies, leading to poor interpersonal relations and accidents..

寅,丘,山,艮,虎 suggest the presence of a tiger and the use of such characters should be avoided.

Using a radical that is associated with the Tiger for a Monkey child is 1 of 6 clashes in the study of the 八字生肖姓名学(Chinese Name Analysis System), which can be shortened to 八字 (BaZi) in Mandarin.

Avoid poor relationships by NOT picking these radicals.

Avoid poor relationships by NOT picking these radicals.

The study reports that individuals under the sign of the Monkey will possess certain traits:

They have good interpersonal skills They can be chatty, interactive and skilled at networking They prefer an amicable settlement over direct confrontation even though they may be offended. They love to dress well, eat well and enjoy the high life, with a general inclination towards material gains and the pursuit of status.

The presence of radicals such as 亥 and 豕 is seen as a punishment to the Monkey from the BaZi's point of view.

Should such radicals appear in the middle name, the BaZi argues that one will have a strained marriage as well as poor relationships with peers in the future.

Should these elements appear in the last name, it will lead to issues with personal finances, challenges in career as well as a strained relationship with one's subordinates and children.

The Monkey zodiac will not do well with these words.

Words such as 心 or 月 are associated with the heart, a part of our flesh. As Monkeys are vegetarian, the BaZi theorises that the presence of such characters will lead to the person being unable to receive help from others.

You don't want your child to be too carefree!

禾,豆,米 denote the presence of grain, cereal, maize and rice. As these are food that the Monkey does not consume, he will only play around with such elements.

The usage of such terms in someone's name will thus create an undesirable effect on his attitude in life. This will usually manifest in a lack of perseverance and a frivolous attitude towards relationships.

Characters associated with clothing are favourable.

These Chinese characters are considered to be auspicious for individuals who possess the Monkey zodiac sign.

The presence of 糸、衣、采 radicals is seen as a positive sign. This implies that the monkey is dressed up like human being, symbolising a lead to a rise in status in society.

These characters represent having a roof or shelter over one's head. A monkey seeks the protection of such shelter and having these words in one's name represents stability in one's career and relationships with supportive relatives and friends.

Having this characters will be similar to arming your child for the future.

Monkeys have shown the ability to wield tools. As these radicals, 刀,刂,矛,匕,戈,矢,斤,片, represent weapons, including them in a name implies that the child will grow up to have positive benefits.

These benefits include intelligence, good leadership capability, rise in status, authority and power.

Lastly, being likened to a human being as a Monkey zodiac is positive.
