Reacting to a Sudden Groom Change

They say that marriage is more important than a civil contract with legal benefits. It is an internal concept. It should be a loving, intimate, and selfless relationship between a man and a woman that lasts through eternity.

Additionally, marriages are a strong bond that ties two individuals. It wraps them in the warmth of social, emotional, legal and even physical bonding.

Marriages also involve the connection of two families. It holds a lasting impact on everyone associated with the couple. Concerning this, could you imagine what would happen when a person tied a knot with their relative?

This happened to an unlucky woman in India. She married a relative because her supposed groom arrived late at their planned wedding.

According to the Times of India, the groom and his relatives in Malkapur Panga Village of Buldhana district went overboard with the dancing part. They arrived at the wedding venue four hours after the appointed time.

The bride’s soon-to-be husband was four hours late for their wedding. The groom caused a massive delay in their wedding that created a lot of animosities. Because of this, a commotion ensued between the bride’s and the groom’s parties.

Why the Bride Married a Relative

The bride’s father became extremely angry and impatient about what happened. Instead, the father got his daughter married to a relative instead of the groom.

The incident happened on the 22nd of April, 2022. The event eventually became a hot topic in their community.

A local teacher in the area took action and stopped the fight. As she was also involved in the incident, she spoke up about what happened.

“People from both the parties who started the assault apologised later. But, the bride’s parents refuse to marry off their daughter,” the teacher said. “So, the marriage could not happen.”

When the groom and his family left the place, the bride’s family selected an eligible bachelor among their relatives. On the same day, the 22nd of April, the father married off his daughter to one of their relatives.

The ‘Mahurat’ Marriage

The family of the bride fails to heed their repeated requests to honour the ‘mahurat.’ According to them, the ‘mahurat’ needs to happen at 4 in the afternoon.

Mahurat refers to a couple’s ideal wedding date. In Hindu weddings, the bride and groom’s families come together and find an auspicious date and time for wedding ceremonies.

At the time, the groom was with his family and friends. They keep on dancing to the tunes of a loud DJ for more than five hours. Later on, the groom’s family create a scene in the venue, which aggravates the situation.

“We decided not to marry our daughter into such a family,” said the bride’s father.

The Groom Settled for a Different Bride

The groom’s side living was understandably upset with the whole ordeal. To settle, they looked for another match and got him married within 24 hours with full pomp and show.

News about the bride’s wedding with her relative quickly reached the groom’s family. They had an unceremonious turning away which did not go down well with the Pawars.

They searched for a girl from nearby, one of their distant relatives, to be the groom’s new bride. Everything happened quickly; the groom’s parents got their son married within 24 hours.

According to a peace committee member in the area, “They performed the marriage on April 24 early morning. The matter ended peacefully.”
