7 Things You Learn About Your Spouse Only After Having a Baby

7 Things You Learn About Your Spouse Only After Having a Baby

Adding a baby into your relationship's dynamics will reveal things you hadn't known about your partner—the good AND bad.

Having a baby changes everything — and that includes your marriage. Introducing a new life into the mix changes the way you interact with each other, and brings out certain traits that you might not have known about your partner.

Here are some of the things you might learn about your partner only once you’ve had a baby, compiled from Romper and Huffington Post.

1. What a great (or poor) team you make

Before you had a baby, you and your partner have probably gone through experiences that have forced you to work together. So, you probably already had some idea of what your team dynamic is like, but you can’t ignore problems once you introduce a baby into the equation. Your communication problems? They matter so much more now. If your teamwork needs some tweaking, don’t worry. Just keep working on it. And when you finally start working together harmoniously, it’ll be nothing short of wonderful.

2. How sexy they look when they’re holding your baby

Seriously, though, there are few things more attractive than seeing your partner being a great parent to your child.

3. How ridiculous your partner can be with a baby

Many don’t get to see their partners act as silly unless they’re in trying to make a baby smile. Whether it’s baby talk or making funny faces or doing a crazy dance, parents will go to enormous lengths to draw out a laugh from a baby. Cherish these moments and enjoy them as much as you can.

4. How squeamish they really are

A lot of men step up to the challenge of diaper duty proudly and readily, while others can’t help but retch at the mere sight of a dirty diaper. If your partner is the latter, don’t worry. He’ll get used to it eventually.

5. Which of their quirks are genetic

Whether it’s their crooked smile or the way they look when they’re upset, when you see some of your partner’s personality in your baby, it’s pretty awesome.

6. What their priorities are

Nothing puts your relationship to the test like having a child. You might find that your partner still prioritises his career and social life over his family. Or you might be happy to discover that you both value the same things.

7. How much you appreciate your one-on-one time

Once you have a child, having time alone to talk and just enjoy each other’s company can be near impossible. So when it does happen, it’s so much more appreciated. (That’s why regular date nights are so important.)
