6 things your child’s principal won’t tell you

1 Aug, 2013

Get an inside look of the things your child’s principal isn’t telling you!

1. Please don’t bypass the teacher

1. Please don’t bypass the teacher

If there’s anything that school principals hate, it’s talking to them before addressing your children’s issue to the teacher. Principals are considered as the last line of defense and should only be involved when no other solution has been found by the teacher.
2. Bullies are everywhere

2. Bullies are everywhere

Principals are well aware about the issues of bullying in school. Unfortunately, they can’t do anything about them especially if no grave physical actions have been done. Reprimanding bullies will have to suffice for the time-being. These children may be bullies but they are students that deserve education too. One of the things your child’s principal won’t tell you is that these bullies cannot be expelled because of name calling and taunting.
3. We know everything about you

3. We know everything about you

You might think that the school principal and teachers are clueless about you but your child openly discusses family routine and events to them. One of the things your child’s principal won’t tell you is that they know that you shouted at your child for breaking the antique vase and they also know that you seldom play with them during the weekends. Oftentimes, the things your children say to them will leave you embarrassed for life.
4. Don’t do your child’s homework

4. Don’t do your child’s homework

One of the things your child’s principal won’t say is that you should mind your own work. Principals know that all parents want their children to succeed in school. However, you should stop answering questions on assignments and making projects for them. If you keep this up, how will your children learn? Allow them to be frustrated with school work and only help them if they ask you to.
5. Please make an appointment

5. Please make an appointment

Principals are very busy people. Just because you saw them in the hall doesn’t mean you have the right to bombard them with concerns about your child. Also, please refrain from doing so during school events. One of the things your child’s principal won’t tell you is that if you really want to talk to them, you should schedule an appointment.
6. We know your child doesn’t like the teacher

6. We know your child doesn’t like the teacher

Whether we like someone or not, we have to learn to deal with it and this goes for your children too. You may complain to the principal about a particular teacher that your child doesn’t like, but they cannot do anything about it. Unless that teacher has done harm, your child must bear the teacher until the end of the school year.
