1. Too much housework
There can be times where you feel that your maid is being lazy, but have you ever stopped and thought if the workload that she handles may be a bit too much?
Make sure to create a work schedule for your maid so that she’s not extremely tired at the end of the day. For example, when it comes to doing the laundry and ironing clothes, she can do it in batches instead of doing all the laundry in a single day.
2. Homesickness
Being far away from your family is a very difficult experience. And it happens to a lot of maids, especially those that go to a different country to find work. This is why it’s very important to give them access to a phone/cellphone, or even better, internet access. It helps them cope better with their homesickness, and is also a good way of making sure that your maid won’t run away.
3. Too much cellphone/internet use
On the other hand, some maids can abuse their privileges and spend too much time on the phone or on the internet. They might rush all their work just so they can have more time on their phone. That’s why you also need to create a schedule of when your maid can use her phone or have access to the internet. At the end of the day, they’re still your employee and you need to set rules.
4. Employer is too lenient
In some cases, the employer can be too lenient when it comes to the rules and the maid abuses their employer’s leniency. While not all maids do this, there can be some times where your maid might feel you’re less of an employer and more of a friend. While it’s totally fine to be good friends with your maid, you still have to establish the fact that you’re an employer and that you’re paying your maid for her services in your home.
5. Employer is too strict
On the other hand, being too strict can also cause problems. Think about it, if your boss was very strict and you felt restricted every time you work, then you won’t be as productive as you can be. Now imagine that, but you have to deal with your boss 24/7.
That’s how your maid would feel if you were very strict. That’s why it’s very important to both act as an employer, as well as a friend to your maid. Striking a healthy balance between those two things would make sure that your maid feels comfortable as well as responsible for her work.
