5 home made remedies to soothe Mum’s headache

4 Mar, 2013

Under the influence of work and parenting stress, it is common to have headaches re-occurring from time to time. When encountering these throbbing headaches, we usually pop painkillers to relieve the pain. Keep headaches at bay with alternative natural home remedies to cure those bothersome headaches. We teach you how.

Laughter therapy

Laughter therapy

Laughter is the greatest, most effective form of stress medicine. It triggers healthy physical changes in the body, diminishes pain and even strengthens your immune system - believe it or not! Grab a funny comic book or play one of those hilarious videos on YouTube that causes ab-forming laughter.
Home made ginger-tea

Home made ginger-tea

To make tea, place 3 long slices of ginger into 2 cups of water and let it simmer in a pot for 20 minutes. Add 2-3 tablespoons of honey and let it dissolve. Prostaglandin synthesis is derived from ginger that battles migraines. Ginger is naturally suited to soothe nausea too. Quick tip: Avoid drinks such as alcohol, sodas and coffee that dehydrates you. Go for plain old H2o instead.
Sniff for relief

Sniff for relief

Roast a handful of caraway seeds in a pan till it is dry, place roasted seeds in a soft permeable handkerchief or a cloth. Once tied, just simply sniff to get a relief from headaches! By doing so, this spice eases nasal and lung congestion, providing you with relief. A teaspoonful of caraway seeds alleviates stomach discomfort and flatulence too.
Incorporate Magnesium

Incorporate Magnesium

Multivitamins containing calcium and magnesium are very much advised to take if you’re constantly stressed out. These two minerals are best when dealing with stress related headaches and tension. Beans, soy milk, spinach, nuts and broccoli are a naturally superb source of magnesium. Time to hit the nearest tau-huay stall!
Vinegar towel compression

Vinegar towel compression

Fill a bowl with 1 cup of warm water and ½ cup of vinegar, preferable apple vinegar. Soak a small towel, squeeze excess water and place on your forehead. Relax in a calming environment with dim lights and feel the stress flowing out of your system. One of grandma’s old tricks, that works like a charm.
