7 beauty secrets of celebrity mums

8 Mar, 2012

How do these celebrity mums stay gorgeous even with a baby in their arms or a toddler running around? We've uncovered 7 beauty secrets they all share!

Celeb mums are constantly on the run and contrary to popular belief, most celebrity mums are pretty hands on with their kids – despite, having little to no help at all.

So just like other crazy-busy mothers, these celebrities have perfected the art of looking good while attempting to be a supermum! Here are some of their beauty secrets.
1. Cap it

1. Cap it

So your baby has started to grab everything he can see and unfortunately that includes clumps of your hair. Perhaps the early morning rush to get your little ones ready for school or a day out, often gets you frustrated and leaving you with no time to wash your or style your hair.

Well, these celebrities found a solution – funky headwear. Don a simple, patterned newspaper boy cap to give yourself that instant 'cool mum' look. You can also tie a simple and light scarf around your head or hair ala sexy mum, Kourtney Kardashian!
2. Pony up

If caps and scarves are not your cup of tea, try a high ponytail, which is a popular choice with most celebrity mummies. The sleek, back combed ponytail keeps hair off your face and is a fuss free option for busy mothers like Jessica Alba.

Without all that hair covering your face, it will give you a nice unsullied look and take years off your face. Pair the ponytail with light and simple make-up. Dress up your ponytail with pretty barrettes or clips. Local accessory stores, such as, Helen and Chameleon offer really cheap options.
3. Clean slate

Begin your day with a clean slate – a clear blemish free face of course. But all those hormonal changes you went through during the pregnancy did much harm to your skin! Thankfully, there is not a lot make-up can’t fix. Angelina Jolie looks simple and fresh, while still keeping it stunning. Ensure you pick a 2-way foundation that provides coverage without the use of concealers and loose powders.

More recently, Asian celebrities (and mums!) are crazy for Blemish Balm (BB) creams, which supposedly provide coverage with additional healing properties. It is said to be a go-to make-up – with effortless application. Local mum blogger, Chicsassymom, gave a great review of Skin Food's BB cream on her blog. She said, 'It's so easy to use, lightweight and non greasy. Surprisingly, I even applied moisturizer before application, but it still provides sheer coverage all day.' We want to know if BB cream works for you mummies, so do leave comments!
4. Cover those eyes

Your nights are now spent waking up every now and then to feed your newborn. When that stage is over, there are nights when you are up nursing your sick child. Before you know it, you wake up to dark bags under your eyes. If you’re in a rush and refuse to look haggard, throw on a pair of sunglasses to hide those panda eyes. Affordable Forever 21 to high-end retailers like Gucci and Prada, offer a myriad of eyewear options. Emulate the ever-trendy Sarah Michelle Gellar and get the kiddo a matching pair!

TheAsianParent tip: If your child is in his 'grabby' stage, avoid expensive sunglasses. Personal experiences tell us that sunnies do not last very long with toddlers in our arms.
5. Shape that

As much as mummies hate to admit it, that post-baby flab is the hardest to get rid off. Once again, just like the blemish-free skin, all you need to do is give the illusion of the perfect body shape! Shapewear, smoothens curves and ridges of the body giving the impression of a slimmer figure.

Shapewear comes in different colours and materials to suit both your outer clothing and lifestyle. So pick one that fits you best. Jennifer Lopez is one celebrity who swears by shapewear, while she exercises off her post-twin baby fat. Lingerie stores such as La Senza and Blush offer a great selection of these miracle bodysuits.

So if you have yet to try these celebrity mums beauty tricks, try them and tell us what you think! And do share with us other easy mummy beauty tips!
6. The bigger, the better

We’re talking about bags! Celebrity mums swear by big and functional tote bags. Big bags aid in making you appear smaller and that much more petite! You get to hide a little behind a bigger tote bag – pick something that suits your personal style be it bright and colourful or one that is a little more muted.

Not only do you give people the illusion that you’re shrinking next to you bag, you also ensure that you’re never without an essential! Big bags are great for lugging around everything you and your mini-me could need. Supermodel mum, Miranda Kerr, shows you how!
7. Scarf it up

Singapore may be blisteringly hot, but that doesn’t mean you have to forego the beauty of scarves. Just opt for those in a lighter, cooler material like silk or linen – they’ll provide the glam without the perspiration.

Halle Berry dresses up her basic greys and blacks with a fashionable printed scarf! If you want to battle the heat, yet again, don’t wrap the scarf around your neck – instead, let it hang loosely at your sides.
