Get creative with crafts this Easter!

27 Mar, 2013
Easter paper pom-poms

Easter paper pom-poms

You will need: Colourful tissue paper, a pair of scissors, wire and ribbon. First, layer 7-10 sheets of tissue paper onto a flat surface. Then, fold tissue into an accordion pattern from the width. Use the scissors and cut both ends of the folded tissue into a point. By using the wire, bind the centre of the tissue paper, then tie the ribbon onto the wire so the pom-poms can be suspended. Lastly, pull layers apart and fluff them into a spherical shape! Ta-da! Easter pom-poms at the ready. Tip: Alternate colours to vary the shades of the same colour for a more floral effect.
Easter placemat

Easter placemat

You will need: A pair of scissors, glue, paint brush, glitter, plain paper, thin cardboard, assorted patterns or coloured paper. Firstly, cut a placemat sized round egg from the cardboard, then using your patterned paper, cut out shapes (squares, triangles, hearts etc). Allow your kids to arrange and glue the cut patterned paper onto the cardboard egg using a paint brush and glue. After, sprinkle as much glitter over the egg as you desire. Using the clear contact paper, cut out a larger egg shape than the cardboard egg. You may use the cardboard egg for tracing. Then, canter and stick the cardboard egg over the newly cut-out paper. Smooth it out, then remove the excess. Voila! Your hand-crafted placemat for the upcoming Easter dinner party is ready!
Easter egg crown

Easter egg crown

You will need: A pair of scissors, stapler, white cardboard, glue and any choice of decorating item(s) such as glitter, sequins, paint, costume jewels. First, cut the white cardboard across length into a strip 10 cm thick. Measure the size of your child’s head using the cut strip and staple fittingly. Cut out some small and large Easter egg shapes from the cardboard. Also, cut out the shape of a bunny. Let your child decorate the bunny and egg cutouts anyway they please. Staple the decorated bunny in front of the overlapping stapled crown, place any sized already decorated egg cut-outs beside the bunny. Let your kid wear their handmade one-of-a-kind crown like royalty!
Easter basket

Easter basket

You will need: Glue, coloured cardboard (A4 size), matchsticks, pinking shears (patterned scissors) green paint and brush and a paper mache box. Start by painting the inside of the box green, then cut a 3 cm x 20 cm strip from the cardboard with the patterned scissors. Then, glue the strip from inside the paper mache box, length-wise. That makes your handle. Next, slowly glue on matchsticks around the exterior of the basket to create that woven effect look.
Easter egg cutlery

Easter egg cutlery

You will need: Scissors, fancy ribbon, a set of wooden cutlery, black permanent markers, double-sided tape and pink-paper cardboard. First, using the pink paper of cardboard, cut out small ear shapes for the bunny character of the cutlery. Stick on a small piece of double-sided tape to the back of your bunny and stick upwards onto the cutlery ends. Use the fancy ribbon to tie cutlery together.
Glittery Easter jewels

Glittery Easter jewels

You will need: An already blown-out Easter egg, glitter paint, additional glitter sprinkles, and colour dye. First, dye your Easter egg to desired choice of colour. Once dried, coat egg with glitter paint. Once semi-dry, do a second coating of glitter using sprinkles to gain even coverage. Let it dry. Now you have a very glamorous Easter egg for your party!
Easter bunny mask

Easter bunny mask

You will need: Paper plates, cotton balls, scissors, white construction paper, large ice cream sticks or a ruler (to hold the mask) pipe cleaners (for the whiskers), masking tape and PVA glue. Cut the insides of the paper plate so you are left with the outer remaining hole. Draw out bunny teeth and ears on a white construction paper and cut them out. Next using the tape, stick teeth, ears, ice cream sticks and pipe cleaners as whiskers onto the paper plate. Use the back of the paper plate as the front side of the mask. It should fold towards the child’s face when playing with it. Glue on cotton wool onto the paper plate. Lay your mask out to dry! Tip: If your cut-out bunny ears keep drooping, use ice cream stick and tape the back end of it.
Easter egg treasure hunt

Easter egg treasure hunt

You will need: Cardboard paper, a small bucket, chocolate easter eggs and a pen. For a fun Easter egg treasure hunt, draw up a map using picture clues and the number of eggs hidden in each spot and put them into egg hunting pail for the kids. Think of four hot spots to hide the treasure eggs and attempt your best at drawing them onto the cardboard. Next to the map location drawing, draw the number of eggs you have hidden. Remember to include a box underneath the drawing so the child can tick off the number of eggs collected. Put map and pen into the pail and watch them hunt!
Bunny ears

Bunny ears

You will need: Scissors, pencils, a glue stick, white poster board, pink construction paper, a stapler, and white crayon (optional). First, cut out a strip of poster board about 5 cm wide and 60 cm long. Then, cut two ears from the same white poster board each roughly 20 cm long and 9 cm wide. Cut out two smaller sized ears from the pink construction paper. Next, glue the smaller pink ears onto the white ears. Draw out inner ears with the white crayon. Glue the ears inside the band, position to fit the child’s head. Now, let the child decorate their own headband! Staple the band to fit the child and cut off any excess.
Paper flowers

Paper flowers

You will need: Scissors, a flower-shaped cookie cutter, bendable straws, a glue stick, pom poms (or cotton balls), and coloured construction paper. First, draw flowers using your free hand or place the cookie cutter onto your coloured construction paper. You can draw a larger flower by roughly tracing the shape of the cookie cutter. Next, cut out the shape of the flower you have traced out. Then, cut into the centre of the flower from the side of one of the petals, and then cut a small circle out of the middle. Once done, overlap both petals between the cut line and glue them together. Stick some glue onto the pom pom or cotton ball and place in the centre of your flower. Then, glue the bendable straws onto the back end of the pom pom. Lastly, allow the flower to stand upside down for it to completely dry.
Blowing out Easter eggs

Blowing out Easter eggs

You will need: A large bowl, a sewing needle, rubber syringe. Work over a large bowl to avoid a mess. Use a sewing needle to puncture a hole at both ends of an egg, then make one hole wider by chipping tiny bits of the shell carefully with the needle. Pierce the yolk with a needle. Carefully insert syringe into the smaller hole, and blow out the egg whites and egg yolk. Rinse well, and its ready for decoration!
