Zooey Deschanel named her baby after her favorite animal and it's the cutest thing ever

Zooey Deschanel named her baby after her favorite animal and it's the cutest thing ever

The singer/actress stopped by the Ellen show to talk about motherhood and the story behind her daughter's unique name

The “New Girl” is now a new mum and she stopped by the Ellen show to talk about motherhood and how she came up with her daughter’s name, which is just as quirky as she is.

During the interview, the singer-actress talked about why she named her firstborn Elsie Otter.

Yes, you read that right.

“Is that a family name?” Ellen asked. To which, Zooey hilariously replied, “In the sense that…we’re all…mammals.”

Since her baby’s first name was more conventional, they thought that they can have more fun with the second name.

Zooey has always been vocal about her love for animals. But she and her husband find otters most endearing.

“They’re cute and playful and fun. And they’re really smart!” gushed Zooey.

Known for her offbeat portrayals, Zooey has been charming audiences in films such as Almost Famous, Elf, and 500 Days of Summer.

Back in August 2015, Zooey gave birth to Elsie Otter, her first child with husband, film producer Jacob Pechenik.
