Step up for Breastfeeding: Educate and Support

Every year, they are choosing the best theme that could highlight and bring attention to a particular aspect of nursing or breastfeeding. As usual, they created the best new theme and catchphrase for celebrating World Breastfeeding Week 2022.

This year, the World’s Breastfeeding Week theme is entitled Step Up for Breastfeeding: Educate and Support. It is the theme which aims to tackle the particle issue of educating people about breastfeeding. 

Furthermore, people want to address issues by raising awareness of breastfeeding. Upon addressing, they would plead with the government, groups, and organisations to implement safeguards for nursing infants. 

What Is the Importance of Celebrating This Event?

The primary importance of celebrating World Breastfeeding Week is promoting nursing and creating a community for breastfeeding. 

It would be best for women, especially breastfeeding mums, to know the advantages of breastfeeding. Experts recommend mothers breastfeed their infants for six months after birth. 

Additionally, every mother must know that their breastmilk contains antibodies. It could help the infant’s body fight infection and bacteria. Babies breastfed for six months after birth will be less likely to develop asthma or allergies. 

4 Breastfeeding Tips for First-Time Mothers

Every mum’s breastfeeding experience is unique; they will always be different from each other. There could be times when nursing becomes a struggle for the mother. Here are some tips that could help resolve common breastfeeding problems that mothers, especially first-time mums, face:

Low Milk Supply

Always remember that the more you feed, the more milk you produce. In addition, eating nutritious food and sufficient could be very helpful. 

As a mother, you must ensure that your baby has a good latch and an adequate milk flow. You may use breast compression while feeding your infant.

Plugged Milk Ducts

Mums can prevent plugged milk ducts by ensuring that the infant is latching correction. Keep in mind that it is essential to drain your breast of milk frequently. 

Additionally, you may also try other nursing positions to help address this problem. The most effective way that could help avoid plugged milk duct problem is to do the following:

  • Frequent nursing
  • Try alternative breastfeeding positions
  • Massage the breast
  • Apply warm compresses

Mastitis

The condition is called mastitis when your breast becomes swollen, hot, and painful. It is an inflammation of the breast tissue that results in pain, swelling, warmth, and redness. 

Once you experience this, it would be better to consult your doctor. Commonly, they will give your prescriptions on proper medication so you may continue breastfeeding your child.

Sore or Cracked Nipples

Sore nipples usually occur during the initial stages of breastfeeding a baby. It could be because of poor positioning or incorrect latch-on technique. 

In cases like this, it would be best to seek help as early as possible to correct the latching technique. You may also apply purified lanolin cream on sore nipples or wear a breast shell to protect them.
