What a year it has been, for Singapore! And after all the controversy and mud slinging over 38 Oxley Road, all eyes are on 9 August, Singapore’s National Day, when the Republic looks to shake off all the dirt that’s been flung on her, and re-emerge as #OneNationTogether, shinier than ever!

This year, the celebrations and colourful parade are returning to The Float @ Marina Bay, and we can’t wait for our favourite part – the fireworks!

As we gear up to celebrate our beloved nation’s 52nd birthday, here are the best places to catch Singapore National Day 2017 fireworks, for FREE! (A word of caution though, get there early to grab your spots, and come well prepared with snacks. You might want to ditch the car in favour of public transport.)

1. Bay East Garden @ Gardens by the Bay

If you are looking for gorgeous, panoramic shots of the fireworks, flanked by Marina Bay Sands and the Singapore Flyer, head to Bay East Garden. It’s also one of the quieter areas, and perhaps more suitable for families with young children, or the elderly. You can get there by car via Tanjong Rhu road or across the bridge from Marina Barrage.

2. The Promontory @Marina Bay

For a spot in the central business district, head to the Marina Bay Promontory. Expect the area to be crowded though. So come early, and be well prepared.

Address: 11 Marina Boulevard S(018940)
Nearest MRT: Raffles Place or Downtown

3. Marina Barrage

Enjoy the festivities from the green, grassy roof of Marina Barrage, with the Singapore Flyer, Marina Bay Sands and Central Business District in the background.

Address: 8 Marina Gardens Drive, Singapore 018951

4. The Lawn @ Marina Bay Financial Centre

If the crowds at Marina Bay Promontory turn you off, you might want to opt for the Lawn @ Marina Bay Financial Centre instead. This green area, just above Marina Bay Link Mall, is located between The Sail and Marina Bay Financial Centre, and offers a good enough view of the fireworks.

7. Helix Bridge and Benjamin Sheares Bridge

Helix Bridge and Benjamin Sheares Bridge are right beside the Marina Bay floating platform and offer an awesome view of the fireworks. Only, expect it to be super crowded, you might just end up jostling for a place to stand.

Nearest MRT: Bayfront or Promenade

8. Marina Bay Sands Event Plaza

The open space at the Event Plaza @ Marina Bay Sands is a great place to see the fireworks. Then again, it can get really, really crowded. Get here early, if you want to grab a place on the steps or along the railings.

Address: Marina Bay Sands Event Plaza, Marina Bay Sands, 10 Bayfront Ave., S(018970)
Nearest MRT: Bayfront

9. Merlion Park

Photography enthusiasts love this place and the steps next to the Merlion are almost the next best thing outside of the Float @ Marina Bay for a view of the pyrotechnics.
