Watch: Helpless mum watches as principal paddles five-year-old son

Watch: Helpless mum watches as principal paddles five-year-old son

But perhaps the saddest thing about the whole thing was that Shana was unable to do anything about it, and she simply stood there.

Teachers are supposed to be the last person you’d expect to hurt a child while they are in school. Unfortunately, many teachers have no qualms hurting students, sometimes under the guise of “discipline.”

Mother Shana Marie Perez from Jasper County learns this the hard way when she personally witnessed her son’s principal paddle his five-year-old after he allegedly spit on another classmate.

Pretending to text on her phone, Shana captured the encounter in a video clip, which she then uploaded on Facebook.

“They told me if he could not get a paddling he would have to be suspended and if he got suspended for even one day I WILL go to jail for truancy,” the video’s caption said.

The clip shows the principal, along with another woman, lining up the boy for the paddling while the he resists, screaming and crying.

At one point Thomas even screams to his mother, “Mummy, help me!”

But perhaps the saddest thing about the whole thing was that Shana was unable to do anything about it, and she simply stood there witnessing the horrible event unfold before her eyes.

According to NBC News:

“In a statement, the Jasper County School District said it ‘is aware of the video released by Ms. Perez. Unfortunately, the district is barred by state and federal law from commenting about the specifics of this incident. The district respects every student’s right to privacy.’

Further, the report said:

“When corporal punishment is used, it is with parental consent. The district is investigating the incident and looking into its discipline policies at this time.”

Regardless of your opinion on spanking at home, there’s no excuse for what happened to this little boy, said Ashley Austrew of Scary Mommy.

“There’s no excuse for playing on a parent’s fears and vulnerabilities, for gleefully lining up a crying and petrified little kid to be hit with a huge wooden paddle, for the trauma this poor little boy endured, or for using abuse as a discipline tactic.”
