Viral Photo: Mum embraces firstborn before giving birth to next child

Viral Photo: Mum embraces firstborn before giving birth to next child

SPOILER ALERT for mummies of two or more: this photo may have you bursting into tears...

Mothers of two or more can attest to the fact that at one time or another they thought about the idea of dividing their love evenly amongst their kids. As time passed by, they found that there was more than enough room in their heart for all of their children. However, before they learned that valuable lesson, they were left to ponder.

One mum’s photo–which perfectly encapsulates this sentiment–has been making making wave across social media as of late. Quite frankly, it’s been making mums everywhere burst into tears. Take look for yourself:

The photo was snapped by Portland-based birth photographer Laura Paulescu. In the heartwarming image, this mother was giving her daughter–her second born– a hug before she goes off to deliver her third child. Paulescu initially shared the photo on her Facebook page, and it has since gone viral!

In addition to the poignant photograph, Paulescu penned a moving caption. “Pure sweetness,” she wrote. “Last hugs before saying goodbye to mumma & the last time she would sit on that big round belly with her sister still inside.”

Scary Mommy had a chance to speak with Paulescu about the photo and the moments leading up to it: “As a mother of two myself, I actually think you understand even more so how quickly life changes with that ‘baby’ when you bring another into your family, after you have two,” Paulescu said in her interview.

“So this mumma knew even deeper in her heart how much things would be changing and how much she wanted to hold onto that moment just a little longer, because she had experienced this once before. Holding your ‘little’ one so close one last time, before they aren’t the little one anymore,” she added.

“The moment of that last hug goodbye was just so special, and I’m so honoured to have frozen that moment in time for them to treasure forever,” Paulescu proudly claimed.

Clearly, many mummies and daddies could relate to this powerful imagery! Here’s a look at some of the feedback right from the comment section of the viral post.

“I remember feeling so sad before our son was born. Remy and I have this special bond. And it would no longer be just us. We tried to make those months before so special for her and spent time with her. Then Mason was born and she struggled for a while. And it broke my heart to see her so sad and struggling. Even now, she still has some hard days, and we just reassure her of how much she is loved and it’s ok to feel how she feels. It is sweet to see how much she loves her brother now. My heart bursts with love for them both. And I hope on some level she knows how much we do love her. My family is my heart and my world,” writes mother Theresa Powell.

Mummy and Facebook user, Kalynn House had this to say in response to the powerful photo:

“I had an emotional time dealing with the fact that my son would no longer be my only child, I had been horribly sick and hospitalized throughout my second pregnancy so I felt like I wasn’t spending enough time with him to get him ready to be a big brother and I remember that pain when I went in to be induced of thinking that somehow everything would change, and I wasn’t wrong but now him and his sister are best friends and they are never lonely because they have each other when friends aren’t available. Don’t get me wrong I was excited about having a second child but I was also scared that he’d somehow resent me for it, thankfully I was wrong with that one!”
