Who is Dr Kermit Gosnell?

R. Seth Williams, Philadelphia District Attorney said: “This is a case about a doctor who killed babies and endangered women…He regularly and illegally delivered live, viable babies in the third trimester of pregnancy—and then murdered these newborns.”

According to the grand jury report: “The medical practice by which he [Kermit Gosnell] carried out this business was a filthy fraud in which he overdosed his patients with dangerous drugs, spread venereal disease among them with infected instruments, perforated their wombs and bowels – and, on at least two occasions, caused their deaths.”

“House of horrors”

The visual of the clinic as painted by witnesses is revolting to say the least. According to the grand jury report when FBI raided the clinic, this is what they witnessed: “There was blood on the floor. A stench of urine filled the air. A flea-infested cat was wandering through the facility, and there were cat feces on the stairs. Semi-conscious women scheduled for abortions were moaning in the waiting room or the recovery room, where they sat on dirty recliners covered with blood-stained blankets. All the women had been sedated by unlicensed staff.”

When public health officials stepped in to look at the surgery rooms, they found that “instruments were not sterile”, “equipment was rusty and outdated”. The search team also uncovered, “fetal remains haphazardly stored throughout the clinic — in bags, milk jugs, orange juice cartons, and even in cat-food containers.”

Late term abortions

When it comes to late term abortions, fetuses have already almost developed into fully viable babies. The law in Pennsylvania states that abortions after 24 weeks is prohibited yet Gosnell had admitted that 10-20% of the fetuses he aborted were older than 24 weeks. The Singapore Abortion Act law also prohibits abortions after 24 weeks (six months).

Just to put this in perspective, if a baby is born prematurely at 24 weeks, they will likely live on if given proper medical attention. Instead of protecting these lives, Gosnell had mercilessly stuck scissors to the back of countless babies and snipped their spinal cords—this is cold-blooded murder. Many of the files have been destroyed, so the exact number of illegal abortions he performed can’t be determined.

One former employee of Dr Gosnell said she even heard a baby scream in one instance: “I can’t describe it. It sounded like a little alien.”

Murder without mercy

As reported by the Philadelphia Inquirer, Kermit Gosnell has been charged with seven counts of first-degree murder of the newborn babies from late-term abortions he had performed. If found guilty he will receive a death penalty. Gosnell is also charged with third-degree murder of a 41-year-old Karnamaya Mongar, who passed away after having allegedly been overdosed on anesthesia during a 2009 abortion procedure.
