It's been a little over two years since veteran Hong Kong actress Tavia Yeung (wife of Him Law) has taken on an acting role, which is why fans were utterly delighted when it was announced last November that the 41-year-old is making an acting comeback.

The role, however, doesn't come without sacrifices.

Him Law Couldn't See His 9-Month-old Daughter Crawl For The First Time

She and her husband, Hong Kong actor Him Law — who is also starring in the same drama — are currently filming in mainland China, while their nine-month-old daughter Hera remains in Hong Kong under the care of family members.

As a result of the physical separation, the pair had to miss out on witnessing firsthand little Hera's important milestones.

In an Instagram post uploaded on Jan 27, Tavia shared a clip of Hera crawling — rather unsteadily and even rolling over at one point — towards a banana. While she had a little boost from a family member, she pretty much accomplished the feat on her own.

"My precious, we haven't seen you in a while," Tavia wrote in the caption. "Your parents are very happy seeing you improving bit by bit, seeing you working hard. You can do it!"

She added several encouraging words in the hashtags and praised Hera for her tenacity, even if it were just for one banana. Celebrity friends such as Singapore actor-host Ben Yeo and Hong Kong actress Myolie Wu also left praises in the comments.

While technology has helped the couple stay connected and updated on Hera, the separation is still bittersweet.

This bittersweet news as reported by AsiaOne about Him Law may remind you about your own baby crawling. Or, you may be preparing for your own baby to crawl. Either way, there are a few things you must remember as parents of babies learning to hit their first major milestone.

Remember that not all babies crawl. Some may bypass this phase altogether and go straight to pulling up, cruising and walking.

However, in general, babies begin to crawl between the ages of 6 and 10 months. You should look for signs of crawling readiness in your baby such as:

  • Sitting well without support (at around 8-months-old)
  • Lifting himself up on his arms, almost like he’s doing mini pushups.
  • Balancing on both arms and knees.
  • Rocking forwards and backward on his arms and knees.

Soon after you observe these signs, it's likely your little one will launch himself on his very first crawling expedition! He'll probably start start by moving to all fours from a sitting position. Once he has mastered the art of rocking back and forth on his arms and knees, he will figure out how to push forward on his knees to get mobile.

Here are some tips to keep in mind:

  • Do not keep hot food and drink at the edge of tables and/or counters.
  • When cooking, ensure the pot handles are turned towards the back of the stove, and remind your helper to do this too.
  • Fasten the oven door with a childproof latch.
  • Keep all toiletries out of reach of your baby. Consider storing them in a wall cupboard that your baby cannot reach.
  • Do not buy or use clothes for your baby that have drawstrings or ribbons that could come loose. These pose a strangulation risk, especially once your baby is crawling around.
  • Remove all hanging toys and mobiles from above your baby's cot once you see he can get on his hands and knees. This is to prevent him from trying to grab them and falling over the side of the cot.
  • Use outlet covers on all plug-points that are low to the ground, as well as on those that your baby could reach once he starts cruising or standing up.

In addition to these, there are a few more important things you can do. Check out our entire guide for parents, here (with inputs from parenting expert writer, Nalika Unantenne).
